Quick question...

Signed a few players and whatnot, and my Averaged Club Salary is above the cap and is red, but the total player salaries isn't.

My board says the wages need sorting and that I'm above the cap.

Am I above the cap? Does it have any effect?

If the Averaged is over the cap, I think you are.

Your player signing fee's have impact on averaged club salary and thus can make it higher than your total player salaries.

Yes, you need to pay attention to averaged club salary. That's the number you need to keep under the cap.

Total player salaries is only subject to your Budget, not the cap. It includes all your farm player's salaries... they count in the payroll, but not the cap.

If you're over the cap, you can't play... simple as that.

Whoa whoa whoa, there's not necessarily any need for distress just yet. Are you still in preseason?

Go into your contract chart under Finances. If all the highest 23 players are ticked, when in fact there are a number of player names in yellow (i.e. players who are actually on your roster and subject to the cap) below them, then it means the game hasn't adjusted it's calculations to your actual roster yet.

I'm in a similar situation in my game right now; my total salaries (including players in the minors) are below $44M, but the game thinks I'm 600k over the cap because it still thinks I'll have the 23 most expensive players on my roster, which I won't.

If you're unsure you can always just take a calculator and manually find out how much your 23 roster players will cost. It'll sort itself before the start of the season.

If, however, you really are at the first game of the season and have a lot of frontloaded or backloaded contracts with higher cap hits than salaries, and are over the cap for that reason, I guess you'll need to put someone in the minors.

You'll have to waive someone.

Actually I am in the exact same situation, and it didn't sort itself out. It says I am 3 mill over the cap. but adding up the salaries I am only 300k over.

A lot of my players are prospects, and have bonus clauses in their contract. Is that added to salary cap? If so I'm screwed. Looks like Kopitar is on his way out then. Razz

Now I'm not sure I understand. You say that by your own calculations you are be 300k over? In that case I don't see the problem, other than you having to waive/trade/assign someone.

As for the cap question, yes: bonuses do count towards the cap, but the given cap number you have already takes it into account so you don't have to worry about that.

Also, often the cap will be higher than the actual salaries you pay out to your roster players, since most of the time they have received a signing-on fee that counts against the cap, which has in fact already been paid out as a one-time sum.

Oh, I got confused and that thought that you were the OP, Qikdraw. Anyway, yes, if you, by your own calculations, will be over the cap you'll have to do something about it.

In my game it has sorted itself as the season has started, because the total cap hits of my 23 actual roster players equal $43.6M. My total salaries, including minor leaguers, are something similar, but I have a few players making less than their respective cap hits.

Don't forget too that a players contract is averaged out to give you the cap hit.

So you could have a guy you signed for 3 years at:

5 million
6 million
7 million

Disregarding bonuses, the cap hit in each year will be 6 million. So in year 1 you will have 6 million count against the cap, but in your total salaries it will only be 5 million.

If you are trying to add it up yourself, best to go into each players profile and look at their "against cap" amount.

No, the easiest way is to look at the salary cap chart. It's very useful because it shows cap hits for current season and next.

Well that was what was actualy happening, but my salary cap said I was over 3 mill over the limit. I did send down a player to get under the cap, by my calculations, but it still wouldn't work. So I did what any sensible person would do, and got a save game editor and changed the cap. Big Grin

I debated for about a week and had a few discussions with a friend who plays and so I decided to raise the cap to 53 mill, which I had read somewhere was the current cap. Which is a good thing cause Crosby, Nittimaki, and Doan are up this year. Ugh.
