Defending Wide Free Kicks and Set Plays

Something that really irks me about 09 and 07 is the way my players defend set plays. I just quit the game (which I am mad at myself for) because there was a free kick on the far side just outside the penalty area and my players are just standing around and allow the winger to collect the ball and serve a cross right to an open player who of course places it just inside the post as if his composure and finishing were 20 each. Im in league 2 I dont expect everyone to get it right all the time but its like the ME cheats and knows exactly what its doing with free kicks near the corner or from a wide area. I put all my guys on man mark or wall and no more than 4 are in the wall leaving me with 6 to defend and those 6 always take up the worst positions possible and leave people unmark just standing in front of goal.

has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?

PS I try not to whine or bash the game and i dont expect it to be perfect as its just a game but its just something that almost always happens with wide free kicks.
