The reason the windows dlls wont work is because fm needs java installed there is a code on the internet to install java in ubuntu just google it and then using the latest Wine you should be okay worked me with fm07 ;)

Have you installed the following via winetricks

directx9
vcrun2005
vcrun2005 sp1
ie6

if not

in console type sh winetricks
and install the above

you should then be able to install and activate game

Well I tried it - installed and activated fine but when I launch FM I get the error 'Cannot run game:Failed to set up graphics system'. I installed the Microsoft Direct X SDK but it's still happening. I am running a laptop with a GMA950. Any ideas?

Your specs aren't good enough on your laptop.
Mine did that too on Windows

Hi

Have you tried running the game via the console using opengl ?

if not

in console type

env WINEPREFIX="/home/roddy/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2009\fm.exe" -opengl

you will need to change /roddy/ to your folders name

If above does not work, there is a linux driver on intel website, which you can download

Same issue.

Installed all of above (and anything that's come up in any Google search involving FM09 and linux) through winetricks, downloaded and installed DXSDK, tried opengl. Still no workie.

Linux driver on Intel website? Go on...

Buy Windows.

Or, as I did, don't buy the game ;)
The idea is quite simple: if the developers didn't make an effort to develop a game for my OS, I shouldn't make an effort to pay them.
