Extra team Instructions required

Recommended Posts

yesturday i carried out a little experimant regaurding free kicks and who takes them.

A player with a free-kick stats of less than 16 misses the target more than oftern, During the game there are many different freekicks required, some are from wide possition's, some deep, smoe close range and some from distance..

Looking at the player stats it's apparent that different stats will aid in helping a player deleiver a good free kick..

Wide kick the kick taker would want good crossing, and even good at corner taking would be of benifit.

Long range In this instance along with a good free kick stat, beeing good at long shots would also be of benifit in this instance.

Close range On the edge of the 18 yard box perhapps?, obviously a player would still want a good freekick attribute, but at this stage may be shooting, composure would help the players ability to connect properly as apposed to requiring crossing or long shots..

The point im trying to make is, we can only set 1 free kick taker to shoot from left or right, what i think we need is to be able to select more takers for close range, wide kick, and long range kicks..

The whole setpiece section needs a major overhaul, for the most part.

Corners

Corners on the whole are fine & the options for them work as intended.

Throw Ins

Throw-ins however, Left or Right is a little minimal, people talk of football pitches in halves & thirds, yet this distinction doesn't make it to set-peices.

Either of these options would enable us to make distinctions between an attacking or defensive throwin, and to change how/where our players are positioned depending on the throwin type.

Halves based throwins

Would give Own/Opponent Half options for Left/Right throwins. The seperator being the Halfway Line

this would allow us to select long in ownhalf (to quickly remove danger) AND quick in opponents half (to possibly create a fast attacking play)

Thirds based throwins

Similar to halves based, but extending the options available by seperating the centre of the pitch into its own tactical area, these splits would be Own defense area, Midfield area & Opponents defence area

although this method gives 6 instruction possiblities as opposed to the 4 of halves based, it offers a great deal of versatility to the player in determing how plays are made.

Free Kicks

Free Kicks again are merely glossed over by the options given, as you are forced into a 1 option for all occasions setting. There are 2 important areas for where free kicks are taken from, and 2 different types of freekick.

Long Range Free Kick

A freekick that occurs in your ownhalf or Midfield area (thirds based) of the pitch, which makes a goal attempt unlikely/impossible. A few extra options here would'nt go amiss, Best Dribbler, Wide Player, Best Long Shots, Playmaker/Targetman are all possibilities.

Indirect Free Kick

These are your chance to create a goalscoring moment through trickery & subterfuge, extra options here can include Step-overs, Close Option (for that little tap to a Long Range specialist), Playmaker/Targetman etc.

Direct Free Kicks

A genuine goalscoring chance for your setpiece specialists that needs no futher explanation from me.

Rant Section

I though it best to keep this seperate from the thoughts above.

DFK/IFK's occur all the time in real world football, why don't we have them after 10 years of development.

FM is your flagship product, I find it rather shamefull that for a product that is meant to represent the nuances of management that an important area of the game, set pieces, has been mostly ignored and underdeveloped continously throughout it's lifetime.

Set Piece overhauling i feel should be your "new shiny bit" for FM10

yes its annoying if you for example want a striker to take freekicks for shots at goal but want him in the box when they are being crossed in.

How do you get the players to cross the free kicks? Every free kick I get no matter what the angle or how good my player is at crossing or how crap they are at shooting they shoot. If its within 30 yards of goal they will shoot. I dont know how to change it

id say if it was out wide, you would currently have to set your freekicks to cross near post, far post, or aim best header?

what else is there to do? or give free kicks to a player that has low CF may be he will do as insturcted perhapps.

there isnt much scope for this area really is there.
