Dangooner's 4-4-2

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Here's the story.... I've been hooked on Football Manager/Championship Manager since the old days. I even used to buy the old magazine - who remembers that?!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've looked through the various posts and comments and tried out various tactics.

I eventually used bits and pieces and my own ideas to come up with a 4-4-2 tactic. I used it with the Arsenal and won everything within a couple of seasons. I wanted to post it but first I wanted to give it a proper test, so I took control of Southend in League 2.

Here's my record as follows:

2008/09 - Won League 1 and the Setanta Trophy

2009/10 - 5th Championship, promoted by winning the play-off

2010/11 - 7th Premiership

2011/12 - 4th Premiership and won the FA Cup

2012/13 - Won Premiership & Charity Shield

Ok, so there are far better formations and tactics out there and with far better results. But, this is what worked for me and I just wanted to share this with anybody else interested. I've found this site to be a great source of views, opinions and tactics, and if I can give a little something back then I'll be happy!

I know some people might say 'you've taken this tactic from that person' etc, but I think it's safe to say that a lot of people will have similar tactics. What I've tried to do is add my own little thing to them.

Either way, thanks for looking and for taking the time to read my post, either if you agree or don't agree with my tactics!

;o)

scottc18 - Cheers for the comments, know exactly what you mean!

Not tried it yet in another country but about to try it in the Spainish league. Once I get that under whay, I'll update my post.

One of the reasons I tried this with Southend after using it with Arsenal, was to see how it worked out of the premiership. So far, so good...!

Sash - I have the ML & MR players making runs straight into the box from their positions, if that makes sense?

For the record, here are the stats for Southend in the league when they won the title:

P38 W24 D9 L5 F57 A22 GD35 PTS 81

Man Utd finished 2nd, on 76pts.
