MuppetMaestro
I've also got this problem and it's really annoying! I think it is because my laptop screen is widescreen but this should have been looked at by SI surely?
james_33
Change the target for the shortcut to: "C:\Program Files\games\Football Manager 2008\fm.exe" -windowed -small_screen This will open the game windowed This may fix the problem - I also run it on a laptop and this seems to work fine (although, I didn't have any problems with fullscreen)

AndrewBone
You can change shortcuts in the same way but it says the command line is not valid?
pelicanstuff
make sure that that is the directory your copy is installed in. That isn't the default so i suspect it isn't. Make sure you include the quotation marks as well.
