Ranbir
Should this really be a hidden attribute? Why can't I, the manager (or my coaches for that matter), be able to determine whether a player is natural, accomplished, competent or ineffectual in a free role but can easily figure out this for general positions? Surely the principle is we're watching these players during training. Why can't it show me who is good as a free roller?
Nomis07
Good point. Howev, positional ratings shouldn't be considered definitive and we should be able to work out how good a player would be in a free role based on his attributes.
craigy18181
yeah i agree with this also and for this reason I never use it. Have tried with many a great player and it has just not worked out for me.
Ched
If we're talking about forwards (which is where a free role is best employed) then it is easily figured out anyone with FC has a free role >15. For other positions it can be figured out fairly easily - just keep track of match rating with free role on and free role off - it will take 8 or so games before you'll get reliable data but it can be figured out. For a stat as subtle as free-role i feel it would be unrealistic to just have a stat - perhaps have it appear in coach reports after 6months or so at the club? rougess
I agree that you should see this, especially as in some tactics the use of a free role is vital, and we could be getting it wrong without knowing
iamjerome
i've never once found free role stat to be essential for a player to play well with one as long as he has the right attributes.

Surely it isn't any more subtle than a rating for CM, which could mean CM, DCM or ACM.
crafty bison
Yes, this shouldn't be hidden. Especially when the game is obtuse about it - for example, a regen of mine (Graeme Kelly in fact!) is listed as AM/F LC which logically should suggest he could be at least competent in a free role. Especially since 'F' instead of 'ST' is supposed to imply Free Role > 15. But in fact the F/ST distinction is broken when the player can also play AM C; Genie Scout informs me Kelly (whom it lists as AM/S LC, not F) has 1 for Free Roles. Ched
Surely it isn't any more subtle than a rating for CM, which could mean CM, DCM or ACM. I personally dislike the midfield ratings - as far as i'm concerned if a player can play CM and has decent defensive stats, he can play DM, and vice-versa with AMC, there's no need to simplify things so that he has stats for essentially and advanced or restrained version of the same position - and i feel free role is a little more subtle - whilst a players positional ability is common knowledge there are't that many players that i could comment on without watching them with regard to free roles.
