Gundo, you might want to put Ireland on the can't play list (Republic btw). Their bottom tier has no relegation

Not quite true. The Republic of Ireland league is undergoing changes to its structure at the moment, and as a result, there is no promotion/relegation from the bottom tier (First Division) at the end of 2007 campaign. However, after this year, the side that finishes bottom will in the future seasons will enter a relegation playoff against a non-league side, with the non-league side being promoted to the First Division if they win it.

It's all explained better on wikipedia (here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAI_National_League#Ranking_system)), under the 'Competition' section.

I'm just quickly holidaying through a couple of seasons to check that this is all implemented into the game, and I'll try and provide the dates for holidaying forward to. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Right then.

I've holidayed through to November 16th 2008, the day of the final league game. The draw for the relegation playoff (just one) is made on the 17th so if you want have a choice of team, you will have to save and reload from November 16th.

Okay, just moving forward to see if everything goes OK.
Dublin City University FC (D.C.U. F.C., previously non-league) will play Wexford (finished bottom of First Division) in the playoff on Wednesday 19th November. It's just one leg, unlike N.Ireland. The non-league side are given home advantage.
Took 1 reload to get DCU FC to beat Wexford.

Holiday through to January 5th 2009, and you're free to take over... Mullingar Town... WHAT?!!?

I think I might have found a bug.

iacovone if you save on the 19th january you will be able to get a wider choice of teams as the leagues reset on either the 20th or 21st!

I found this strange in Ireland on last years game.

Although there is no promotions/relegations at the end of the 1st season Mullingar Town came up at the end of the 1st season in 07.

That's super johnny. Hopefully SI can shed some light on it or confirm it's a bug and get it sorted. http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

No Jimbo it does not unfortunately. It's just the big 3 Scandinavian nations - Norway, Denmark and Sweden that generate clubs into the Royal League as it' known. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The Royal League has ceased to exist anyway. Teams didn't take it seriously, noone went to the games, and tv ratings were shocking, so it wasn't very surprising when it was announced last month.

It was rubbish in game as well, the Swedish and Danish teams were appaling by the time my Træff side qualified for it. Beating the Swedes is all well and good, but beating their top sides 8-0 on average is a bit much. There were also a lot of bugs in the set up in the FM2007 edition.

Who invented the transfer system in Belgium. Really crap transfer window rules like for most of the time you can only sign players from higher divisions and about halfway through the season you cant even sign free agents any more. Apart from that Belgium rocks. 16yo with professional contracts is nice.

Scroll up a bit. I have made a few posts about my progress. In my first season I won the 3rd division so now off to the second division but my club is on the verge of bankruptcy which will be unpleasant to have point deductions.

Nice! I also won the Belgium 3rd division in my first season with Patro Eisden but I was in 3rd division B. I am surprised that all your players are completely different to mine. I thought maybe we would sign a few of the same players. Anyway Belgium 2nd division coming up now.

I want to ask how are your finances going? My club has gone a fair way into the red and it was made worse by the board deciding to add more seats to the stadium. Seems like a bit of a bug that they would do that when we are in debt.

I hate that when I tactically outsmart league leaders Aluminij, and we snatch a valuable goalless draw, both relegation rivals record an away win http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I don't know how you feel, but in this FM edition it's really worth listening to the opposition reports, because I've had two shock results after adjusting the team to the pitch/focusing on the recommended weakness.

DS, my finances are steady at the moment, gradually increasing as the season progressed.

Finances (http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff75/ks58594/lyraFinance.jpg)

In pre season at the moment looking forward to my season in the 2nd division, though i will have to strengthen my team considerably as my main players last season were loans from my parent team Lokeren.

my scouts arent doing a very good job at the moment so ill have too look around a bit.

Good luck DS on ur 2nd division, an with ur finances.

The league reps in the guidelines are for the given nations top division.

I believe some of the info off konquests guide pdf from last season will have changed, hopefully he could rustle another up for this years if he gets the time... Well after only 3 games in the league, my brief run as Bereza manager comes to an end thanks to a eejit of a chairman.

Although it did end prematurely I did have a great start to the season, winning 2 and drawing 1.

That's great news johnny. Technically that nation is still playable in this challenge, but we'll just have to make people aware of it should they want to start in Ireland to save anybody being confused by the promotions.

Turns out I was 3rd division A also. Anyway haven't played much of 2nd season yet. About to go have a long session but my finances are much better now and I have only used a 3rd of my wage budget so thats maybe why. Player loans are great lol. Got 5 players in from my parent club compared to last season when I only took 2. They are my star players and I pay them no wages. Regretting selling my star player so cheap when my finances are a lot better now and making profits so I will be out of debt soon.

I signed some great scouts but pointless since I can only scout in Belgium at the moment. However A good thing to do is put a scout on the u19 competition and one on the u21 competition. You will mostly get reports about good youngsters who have no intention of joining your team but you will find a few that will want to join you.

Also Gundo I am in the second division not first and I am in 09/10

Konquest how is life in the Swiss league with the Mighty Martigny! That has a cool sound to it, all most as cool sounding as Mighty Metalec. Wink

Despite my pretty limited playing time, the Marvelous Martigny (TM) are doing relatively good. Made a few good signings before the first season and we started pretty good.

A few shocker wins despite being touted as heavy underdogs in the early season allowed us to be as up as 3rd place at a moment. But so far, it looks like it will be a controlled slide towards the bottom of the table. I just hope I can control it enough to avoid relegation. I'll do my first update during the winter break.

I'm glad to see that Dusan Nulicek is in my game. However, he's worth £160K, so I'll probably have to wait quite a bit before buying him. However, at 20 years old, he already looks incredible. I have added him indefinitely to my shortlist, hoping to add him to my lineup somewhere down the line. For those who don't know him, check last year's thread. He scored more than 200 goals for my Metalac side and was voted Fans Player of the Year for 10 consecutive years.

I'll keep you updated.

Do you think the "confidence bug", which appears to be rife, will have a major impact on your challenge too? It appears to be hitting the "dafuge" challenge quite badly! I'm tempted to finish my current season in Dafuge's challenge and then start on this one; awaiting the release of a patch.

I've not started this challenge yet no. I'm going to wait for the next patch before I settle down with a career game. I'd started dafuges challenge a while back but couldn't really get into it (I'd have flashbacks of my great game in Norway last season, which made it harder to concentrate http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ). I've just played various save games really, nothing longterm.

I don't know to what extent the "confidence bug" will affect this challenge, I suppose you'd have to ask the guys taking part so far.

Well with regards to what next... It's your call I suppose mate. I think i'm going to have a crack at this challenge in Norway again when the patch is released and hopefully it can be even more enjoyable than last seasons time in Stavanger, if that is even possible as I think that was my best ever CM/FM game (High Praise! http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif ). http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I'm going to take another shot at this challenge alongside my Zacatepec game in my South American challenge. After last year's adventure with Svartviks in Sweden, this year I'm travelling to their Scandinavian neighbours in Finland, and I'll be taking charge of the mighty Kaarinan Pojat - better known as KaaPo.

With their enormous 750 capacity stadium, and a media prediction of 13th (out of 14), it should be a fun challenge again. I'm slightly worried that they're already in the process of a board takeover - hope my reign at KaaPo isn't too short-lived!

We reached safety with 4 games to go \o/

I've never thought this when the team were averaging 2.8 GA, but defence tightened up, and now we're quite decent.

Only challenge left in the season is making a top goalscorer out of my loanee ST http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Update 2008-09

NK Slovan

Slovenian 2nd division

I took over a club with no staff and shocking squad. Went on a loanee signing, as no-one decent wanted to sign for us. Season got off, and I was not convinced by the 'quality' of the squad, so to say.

The Slovenian 2nd league has 3 rounds, 27 matches. The first third was quite awful, defence leaked in goals left, right and centre. Good that Dravograd was as bad, and Zagorje was even more hopeless http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I found out that the team knows **** about zonal defence, went to man marking, tweaked tactics and oops! Defence was still below par, but at least not shockingly bad. Attacking was consistently good all year, my loanee ST from Celje leading the troops. With a good run we pulled away from the relegation battlers, secured our place for next year, and ended up a comfortable 6th.

League table (http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/4854/slo2nd0809et5.jpg)

Squad (http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/5852/slovan0809squadrs6.jpg)

Free signings on the way. I'd like to finalise some loans, or at least extend them. We'll see. Top scorer is surely on his way out, as he attracted loads of clubs from around the Balkans.

Decent season, I couldn't have wished for more. The divide between the top 4-5 teams and the rest is quite huge, so it'll take hard work to be competitive with the biggish clubs

Cup sucked arse. Ousted a non-league team, then went down on penalties at home against Bela Krajina.

Lowlight: Getting spanked by Bela Krajina 7-0 at home in the first friendly. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Highlight: Spanking Bela Krajina 6-0 away in the league http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I forgot: I've never had such an injury-free season since I've been playing the FM series. One major injury and a few minor ones here and there, but as you can see, I had 9 players who played more than 2/3 of the games. So I was able to play with a more or less constant starting XI.

Damn http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I had my Dafuge game ruined after getting into league 2 on 2008 due to the beta patch killing it. Gutted for you http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Austria is fine by the way. Different teams on reloads so no concerns there. http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Thanks. I will keep my save in case the patch fixes it but I doubt it. Anyway I might eventually return to this challenge even if I have to start again.

Loaded up Austria [the date for new teams is the 24th of June however every reload made the same teams come up. I'm not sure why so I will have another go tonight to see if I get anyone different. All I see so far is the same 3 clubs http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Have you tried reloading from your last save to see if you are getting the same happen (this has worked for me in the past with contracts)? And if that fails report it to SI, they may well be able to sort it out for you?

Well following my sacking from Budakalasz i've decided to start a new game and hopefully learn from my mistakes. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

After a year out of the game i head to Bulgaria and takeover newly promoted Botev Bali (http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/6167/profilerv8.jpg). The squad currently consists of two 17 year olds Kirilov and Kolev who are both on loan at the club, there are no reserve or youth team players.

The Chairman is apparently willing to listen to offers (http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7763/infocd8.jpg) so maybe some unexpected investment will come our way.

Gundo, I got bored earlier today whilst trying to write an essay, so here are some start dates:

Bulgaria: 29th June
Croatia: 18th June
Czech Republic: 28th June
Denmark: 5th July

These are all the day before the change occurs, so the date people might want to save the game on.

Hope that helps.

I've either made my stupidest loan ever or my instincts were right.

There's this guy, a young pacey striker, gifted with very good technique as well. He's from the youth academy of my parent team Domzale. He had been on loan at Bela Krajina last year, a team which we met 5 times - he scored 6 goals against us, causing havoc in my defence.

Loan period was off, he returned with a broken thigh to Domzale.

I've loaned him. The guy is out for approximately 2 more months (a month's gone from the season already). I knew that he would surely miss the first third of the league, but when (and if...) he recovers, he'll be more valuable than all my other strikers together.

I'm really curious how the loan will turn out to be.

Vidir Gardi, Season 2008/09, Icelandic First Division

League (http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4898/leaguetable0809zn1.jpg) http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Lower League Cup (http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4835/lowerleaguecupwinui0.jpg) http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So a trophy in the bag and promotion secured, a good first season. We lost the league with 2 games to go after leading all season. I took advantage of the misconception that we'd head straight back down by developing a strong counter attacking formation. The first half of the season we were unbeaten but the return games we really declined, it was a shame not to complete the double but at least we're up.

I trialled around a hundred players and secured a number of key signings. A few of these players really turned out to be gems and in pre-season I've really had to try hard to keep hold of a few of them. With the new season approaching, I've kept the squad together and added one or two improvements. My aim is to suprise the big clubs early on and stay up. Anything else is a bonus.

Don't get me started on them. I agree with your sentiments exactly, its really good to have this section, where people can have a laugh and enjoy the game (and other peoples games).
I am really glad I found these forums a couple of years ago, they really have added to my Football Manager enjoyment. Challenges like this and dafuges really get you into the game (so much so I even have a new laptop on the way this week http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

So Gundo , steer clear of general questions - its bad for your health, and somehow, even managers to detract from your own enjoyment of the game!

Long live the Challenges forums!

I agree with everyones sentiments in this thread.

Either I am getting old and grumpy or GQ is actually, somehow getting worse.

I really appreciate having this separate forum now. I see the same familiar names, people I know are quality posters and I like they way we all get on, have a laugh and support each other.

GQ is just a wasteland. I feel really sorry for those who actually post good threads with good ideas only for them to see it sink under a bunch of threads littered with txt speak, abuse, moaning, whining and claims of cheating AI and super goalies. I have probably been around too long. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I also feel sorry for SI in a way as the useless drivel fed up in there is no use to developing their product.

I could rant more but I will shut up.

I am just thankful for those upstanding members of this subsection that make it the great place it is. Were like LLM with less Spam http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I *really* need this patch soon. I am having withdrawal symptoms http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I better get onto this revision sometime soon as well.

I also had a long, hard day on placement today ( I am a student nurse) and so I am glad I can come in hear and let off steam. Apologies for the rant.

Oh and congratulations to iacovone for a fantastic season. http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

I got my game working again. I reloaded again on the day before I got the bug which ruined my game and this time I lost the next game instead of winning it and the bug didnt come up. I started getting the "Array access out of bounds" again but I could still continue. However I thought it still wouldn't offer me a contract and so I was just going through the season to see what happens and wasnt really into it much and my teams form worsened and we end up slipping from 2nd to 5th. Still we made it to the play-offs and we didnt get the promotion spot. So another season in the 2nd division. I guess a 3rd straight promotion was to much to ask for. I did get that new contract right at the end of my contract and so the bug didnt screw up the game to much. I really used loan signings this time bringing in 5 players from my parent club Standard. Also I picked up an awesome striker. He has finishing 16 which is too good or this league and so he is a goal machine. The problem is he is injury prone. He was averaging nearly 8.5 early in the season but then injuries hit and he would keep getting injured and in the end his season average was only 7.5 but that is still awesome. This season also included my first buying of a player with money and also my first dip into the January transfer window. This was allowed due to my huge financial recovery which I had to do myself since the board is clueless. The board is willing to expand the stadium at the end of every season but they still haven't improved training or youth facilities.

Transfers (http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/5389/kpatroeisdenmaasmecheleup0.png)
Table (http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/2487/belgianseconddivisionstox3.png)

Anyway for the new season we are ready to demolish the league. I have put together an awesome squad which should have no trouble winning the 2nd division. I love how my scouts have developed. I have replicated my star striker 3 times it seems. I have signed another 2 strikers that are just like him. High finishing but injury prone. They wont be able to stop scoring next season.

Thanks for the update!

Glad you got it working again. I am sure you will demolish the league next season http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Congratulations of the new contract! This bug is annoying at present and I am glad it was picked up.

Any chance I could see a screenshot of your star striker? Just out of interest! http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Haven't been giving my Magherafelt game much time lately, have been too absorbed in my dafuge save.
Good to see people doing well, fantastic first season iacovone, and congratulations DS on getting your save working again!

I'm sure I'll pick up my Magherafelt game sometime soon, probably when my Guiseley side hit a rough patch.

As far as waiting for the patch goes, I haven't experienced any particular troubles as yet (probably due to not exceeding expectations!), so I'm happily plowing on.

I will be trying this challenge soon, as long as I complete dafuges challenge, or get stuck in a rut. Played this challenge last year after my Merthyr game in dafuges hit a brick wall, and thoroughly enjoyed my time in building Killylagh up into the best team in Northern Ireland, whilst only having limited European success, it was a superb challenge, and one that I hope to be a part of soon in the near future.

Also I agree with you Gundo about the GQ, I sometimes go on there and have a little scout about and cant believe what some people post in there, absoloute drivel. Always makes me laugh the way people harp on about the same things over and over again.

Good luck everybody though, and hope you all enjoy the callenge as much as I did last year http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

i had the choice of 2 teams.

Puchov had a 6000 capacity stadium, the majority of a squad and were predicted 11th[out of 12]

I however chose Stropkov, with a 3000 capacity, a 40 yr old DM and a prediction of dead last. Well, i dont want anyone saying i took the easy route http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Now i find that i have no players and the season starts in a little over 2 weeks.

I'm expected by the media to be relegated, but they reckoned without the mighty migwar..

i'll update when [if] i get any players

You can scrub mine and Jr's name from your table the next time you update it Gundo http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

I've given up on this shambles and will be re-installing FM07 at the weekend. If I still have my 07 save and it still works after the reinstall, (not sure if that's possible or realistic), then I will be continuing by Lisburn Rangers save http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Jr is going back to a mix of Travian and Runescape http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.

I've had someone asking this before and what I said was, I don't see it being a real problem. The only thing I said against this was that maybe other users might not be as interested in your game reports ect. because your not using really players. Having said this if you are managing in an obscure country people won't of heard of your players anyway.

Hmmm, I just loaded it up and it is pretty horrible to be honest. I really wish they would put more effort into this feature as it could be really fun. Sadly it is atrocious, I can tell who everyone is and even worse, some world class stars ages become 15. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

I don't think it will be wise unless they put some work in on it!

Meldert, Belgium - August 1st 2008

Pre-season over, pretty much. The first league match is almost a month away, but rounds 3, 4 and 5 of the Belgian Cup are scheduled first. The board expects me to get to Round 4, so I hope the team is ready-ish.

The friendly matches weren't very promising. Six matches played. Two draws, four losses. One goal scored, 19 against. Granted, I selected the opponents based on ticket income, and my squad is built entirely from scratch, but still.
I picked the largest pitch size available (110 by 75 meters), following the reasoning that I like to concentrate my attacks along the wings. But after being totally outplayed in every friendly match so far, I'm starting to regret that - perhaps a more congested setup would have been the smarter choice. Ah well, too late now.

At least the board expectation is realistic - relegation battle. The media expects us to finish dead last. Obviously my own standards are a bit higher.

I brought in 22 new (free transfer) players, loaned 3, and signed 8 of the existing amateur squad to real contracts. Those 8 are merely to provide squad depth though, the core of the team is to be found in the new signings. I'm still only using 3800 of my 4800 euro wage bill, so no problems there.

A brief overview of the key players:

GK - Kristoff Deprez (26)
Released from a 2nd Div. team where he was a backup goalie who got to play a few matches, he seems like the reliable goalie I need. A very balanced goalkeeper, with most of the vital attributes between 10 and 12, and with 16 in Aerial.

DRC - Romain Reynaud (25)
A youth product of French Ligue 1 team Saint Etienne, played for some obscure French teams, and then agreed to come on trial. My coaches liked him a lot, I hope I will too. Vice-captain.

DLC - Rémi Keromest (25)
And a Frenchman for the left side as well, though this one played in the Belgian 2nd Div. for a few years, so I could scout him.
Hopefully these two somewhat experienced full backs will balance out the 18 and 20 year old center backs.

DM - Céderic Van der Elst (28)
My coaches rate this one as a leading star for a 2nd Div. team, but I think that's a bit overrated. He's a touch on the slow side, but rates very well in the mental column. Because of that I made him the team captain, and almost half the squad was quite pleased with that.

AMR - Jeroen Mertens (19)
Lots of single-digit attributes, but the double digits are in the right places. High pace and flair, and decent technique, dribbling, crossing etc. I expect a lot from this kid.

ST - Matthew Bartholomew (19)
Trini&Tobago/Belgian who was on Sheff Utd's payroll for the past two seasons, but spent those two years on loan in Belgium and was then released. Pace and flair, with some dribbling skill, hopefully enough to run the Third Div. defenses ragged.

ST - Gilles De Bilde (37)
Probably won't be a key player, but worth mentioning nonetheless. 25 times Belgian international. Lacking pace and stamina now, so he won't start many matches, but his skills are still there. Good to have for emergencies.

then, transfer window closes around 13th august, so it was a bit of a rush job. i've filled my squad, but they're all way short on fitness, and obviously there was zero cohesion.

Well we provided no suprises this season. Predicted to come bottom I'm happy to say we stayed up narrowly. The season was difficult as we lost one of our more experienced midfielders for the season just a few games in. Luckily the goals of club favourite Holmberg (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8596/holmberg09ts7.jpg) ensured we beat the teams around us and meant we just claimed the points required to survive. A few players I brought in immediately showed they weren't up to the task and I was left with a smaller squad than I'd have liked. So onto next year, where survival will be the key once more. Hopefully it won't be quite as close next year!

A few key men (they've all been nicknamed):

The Kid (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2615/thekid09cw4.jpg) - a youth product and one of the best CB's in the league. Plenty of teams sniffing around him.
The Urn (http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/1741/urn09eh0.jpg) - class act, signed on a free in the first division. Will be hard to hold onto - newly appointed captain.
Ellert (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5301/ellert09ht7.jpg) - good winger, also could be hard to keep onto.

Prediction - mid table next season, hopefully some progress through the upper league cup.

Good luck to everyone that has joined in the last few days! http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

Probably won't be a key player, but worth mentioning nonetheless. 25 times Belgian international. Lacking pace and stamina now, so he won't start many matches, but his skills are still there. Good to have for emergencies.

Sheffield Wednesday and PSV legend! http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

he was!! oh the days when we were Premier League and could attract international players.......... </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I remember him mainly from his Anderlecht days (and he's a regular Champions League analyst on Belgian tv now). I almost forgot that he played in the Prem League as well.

If I'm not mistaken, there was another Belgian international who signed for Sheffield Wednesday in those days as well. (Marc Degryse, an AM/FC-ish type player)

Don't know if they were there at the same time though, but it was roughly the same period.

NK Slovan Ljubljana

Second season winter break update:

Surely safe from relegation, as the 2 newly promoted teams are awful.Combined they have a 1-9-20, 10-72 record, I'm sure you get the pic http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We have the best defensive record http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif and late autumn the scoring department also showed up http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif Sitting comfortably 4th. With luck a promotion playoff sport could be reached, but I think 3rd-5th is more realistic. Probably recently relegated Livar will run away with the title, and surprise package Bonifika look good for the second spot.

This is basically exactly what I found in Slovenia in the last couple of years. Survive season 1 and you're set fair. I think most of the teams in div 1 have fairly similar reputations, then a decent gap to div 2, then another decent gap to the lower divisions.

Meldert, Belgium - December 14th 2008

Mid-season table (http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z9/CoachFlu/Meld/BelgianThirdDivisionA0812.jpg)

Well, we clearly have a relegation battle on our hands.
I'm not worried yet though. It's a tight bottom half of the table, and my team is rarely played off the field. We're usually quite competitive, it's just a matter of turning that into points.

Our defense clearly isn't the problem - it's the lack of goals. 12 goals in 15 matches simply doesn't cut it. At least 4 of our 6 draws should have been clear wins.

Matthew Bartholomew, the young Trinidad & Tobego striker, isn't quite performing as I had hoped. He's not terrible - he often weighs on the defense - but 2 goals in 15 matches, with a 38% shots on target ratio, isn't cutting it.

Luckily my other striker, Zachary Zekhnini, a 19yr old Greek kid on loan from my 2nd Div. parent club, is doing better, with 7 goals in 15 matches.

No need to change much yet though. Unless Bartholomew's productivity doesn't improve soon, then I may have to try one of the backup strikers. But I'll give it a handful more matches, I still have confidence in the lad.

The team is entirely built from scratch, so they should start to gel now. I'm expecting the second half of the season to be a little bit better than the first.
It better be, or I'll be out of a job, heh.

Well...

They had a great name, and great colours, but they were a crap team. And since I'm a crap manager, it was doomed from the beginning.

After 10 league games, 10 losses, 5 goals scored and 39 against. I decided to put the fans and myself out of our collective misery. I resigned.

Decided to start again a bit closer to home in Sweden. (I don't know the new table date, but its before the 28th december. When I came back from holiday the leagues were already refreshed.

My next victim is: Krokom-Dvärsätts IF in the Swedish Second Division West Gotaland

It would be good if they built a new ground with a lot of standing, seeing as it is allowed in Croatia.

Standing is:

1. Livar 37
2. Rudar 35
3. NK Slovan 34
4. Bonifika 33
5. Bela Krajina 33

First spot = automatic promotion
Second spot = promotion playoff

What are these short term games? I've almost run out of games to play as I don't really like big club management tbh.

I'm not sure what country to go in. I fancy a bash in a mainland Europe. Possibly in Eastern Europe, we'll see though.

Similar story here guys, just messing about in Croatia again. I like the league.

Also one of the teams promoted came runner up in the league cup and have a UEFA cup spot http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

I was tempted to take over but decided against it! http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I really want to get stuck in but without the patch I feel it to be a bit pointless. Strange to have all this time free!

Kinda missing my hotseat game I play with my housemates in Italy, but we are all waiting for the patch. We start at the top there mainly due to time limitations but it is always good fun! http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

I had my exam on friday and it went well so at least I will have some time to play. Just looks like I am only going to have weekends free!

ps: Apologies for the table posts gundo http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Update time.

NK Slovan, 2009/10, Slovenian 2nd Division

odds: 41.00
Media prediction: 8th
Board&fans: stay clear of relegation
Me: mid-table

Players in: 8, 3 former loanees signed
Loans in: 4
Players out: 6

We built on a strong and tough defence, which was held together well by my captain and a dramatically improving young loanee. Up front we lacked a lethal scorer. The guy who I loaned with a broken thigh returned from injury in November, but - despite his excellent ability - only hit the back of the net 3 times.

We went to winter break on the 4th spot, then looked like we could make a push for a promotion place. Within 2 weeks our hopes fell apart: loss with a stupid own goal against Rudar (0-1), at home to Mura (0-2) and to Bela Krajina (0-2).

We improved a bit afterwards, secured the bronze medal with a game to go. Livar won the league with ease, going straight back up. Unfortunately they held the fiesta with a 4-0 thrashing over us http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

A very good season. Most of the squad is kept together, but I'll need a scoring ST, a good MC and a DC for the next season, as well as being lucky with my loans.

Meldert, Belgium - May 10th 2009

Midseason table (http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z9/CoachFlu/Meld/BelgianThirdDivisionA0812.jpg)
End of season (http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z9/CoachFlu/Meld/BelgianThirdDivisionA0905.jpg)

Well, that was quite an inconsistent season.
At the halfway point we were in the relegation zone, averaging 0.8 goals per match. The kid who was supposed to be my star striker only managed to hit the net twice.

But like I mentioned at that point, it didn't feel like we were relegation material. We were playing well, just not scoring.

And then, after the winter break, things just clicked together, and scoring suddenly seemed easy. We went on a six match win streak (including a 0-8 away win in which my non-scoring striker bagged four) and a 12 match no-lose streak, putting us in with a chance for the last playoff spot.

That wasn't meant to be, as our form suddenly collapsed and we lost the last three matches of the season. But that's ok.

Matthew Bartholomew, the kid who only scored 2 goals in the first 15 matches, managed to finish the season with 18 goals.

I'm quite pleased with several of the other lads as well - especially the back four. Plenty of the backups aren't up to snuff though, so I'll be cutting away some dead wood and see if I can strengthen the squad a little.

A bit of team analysis as of now. I'm right after releasing like 8 useless fellas.

NK Slovan, Team positional overview

GK: Fine here. First choice keeper is rock solid, his new backup looks a huge prospect (but he apparantly has no brain, looking at his stats)

DR: No problem. two players, same quality, up to scratch.

DC: Fortunately I managed to loan the young towering DC for the third year in a row. I can move around three-four other players if needed.

DL: A bit weak. 20-year-old full-back is incostintent and prone to err, while my captain is out for months. Probably a loanee would be fine here.

DM: OK here. First choice is extremely good, my most valuable player.

MC: At the moment I have a whopping two, while I need six. Permanent contract is put before two former loanees, and I'm looking to sign key midfielders on the market.

ST: I'm in a marathon negotiation with the guy who came on loan with broken thigh last year. I have two decent strikers, a hot prospect, plus I need a key one on permanent deal, and a promising loanee too.

(as it shows we play without wingers)

Krokum - Swedish 2nd division West Gotaland

My first day in charge I realize it's awfully quiet at Krokum. Just a chairman, two players and me. It takes a while to scramble together a backroom staff, and by the time the window closes I signed two players and loaned a great young defender, double figures in all the stats that matter.

reaction of my fans: how can you sign this guy, we're lucky we can send him back at the end of the season http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif.

When the transfer window opens again I sign some more players and we play our first, and only, game without grays in the starting eleven.

By this time things are looking bleak with us sitting dead last, 9 points from a relegation playoff spot. Than suddenly things start to click, slowely we climb to the eleventh place.

With 12 points from 15 (last two games 4-0 and 4-0, with hattricks for my two strikers) we might just have a chance at avoiding relegation.

The last game of the season we play at home to already champions Lindome. We sit eleventh with 20 points, Skövde and Skärhamn sit in front of us both with 22 points. We win our game 1-0 with a controversial penalty, the other 2 lose and we survive our first season

final standings (http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8423/2008standingsbx2.jpg)

Next season is going to be hard. We need more depth (only 11 players at the moment), and we're leaking money everywhere.

Board Confidence. (http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc130/shane962/BoardConfidence.jpg)

After a particularly pleasing start to the season whereby being unbeaten after four games, all be it mostly draws, I was all set for the team to be there or there abouts come the end of the season, how I was wrong. Although in the end we did finish a respectable 10th, although somehow I feel we could have challenged more.

Belarusian First League. Final Standings. (http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc130/shane962/FirstLeagueSeason1.jpg)

Our main downfall was the defence, which will need to be sured up for the next season. Although goalscoring did come quite well to the squad which was pleasing and I mean that in the sense I was surprised of how many we did score with the poor attacking options available.
But one player really did shine for the squad, Sergey Rusetskiy (http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc130/shane962/SergeyRusetskiy.jpg), although only being 20, he was by far the best player for the team throughout the season by being the most consistent.

FC Molodechno Stats. (http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc130/shane962/MolodechnoStats.jpg)

Next season I will definately be looking for an improvement in the cup. Although the board didnt expect much, I was gutted to be sent out in the first round. But as I say theres always next season.

And I'm quite looking forward to next season to be fair, should be interesting to see how we build on last years 'success' and hopefully push for promotion.

The difference between the top tier teams and second division is shocking.

Lost at home to Gorica 0-4 in the cup QF. Shots: 2(0) - 18 (10). Ouch.

No wonder so far the recently relegated top team has always gone back up and no second division team was able to win a promotion playoff.

I think the problem is SI have reduced the amount of players in 'greyed out' teams significantly this year. Which not only means you get a smaller pool of non-league players in your chosen Nation but also an even smaller choice in others or neighboring Countries. So the chances of seeing Burda after loading up Norway are slim i'd say. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yeah waiting patiently for the patch before I start. I don't think it'll be that much longer before it's released.

I'm sure there is a Norwegian Burda lurking in Norway just waiting to be discovered... http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I see there's a few playing in Sweden, so it's Norway then http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif
The Vikings will rise and conquer Europe again, well we nearly did with Skjetten http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Gundo do you have any idea how many clubs get promoted into the bottom tier of the Norwegian Leagues?

I'm doing some experiments at the moment to see what variety of teams are promoted. Early indications, there seem to be 3 new clubs promoted into each of the 4 groups in the Second Division, so that's a really good choice of clubs to pick from. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Skjetten are still their and where promoted once or twice so far, could it be a fairytale return to the Mighty Skjetten for cookie... http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

NK Slovan, mid-season update

It's gonna be one tough spring.

Standings are:

1. NK Mura, 14-1-0 (!!!), 43 pts
2. Bela Krajina, 8-3-4, 30-23, 27 pts
3. NK Slovan, 7-4-4, 25 pts
4. Triglav 6-5-4, 23 pts

The rest is well behind.

I think we can already present the automatic promotion spot to NK Mura, except if the end of the world comes sooner as the championship finish http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Being tipped for only 7th they stormed the league. Only draw came against Triglav.

Bela Krajina are at the same level as us. They are playing a strange 3-5-2 which is a tough nut to break.

We could be higher if only for the 4 lost points against newly promoted Izola. There is something in their uptempo game which definitely doesn't suit us.

Triglav has by far the most quality in their squad from the top 4. They seem to have internal problems an never really got going. If they sort out themselves, they'll be the most probable contenders for the promotion playoff spot.

The bottom half is much more balanced than last year, as now there are two decent newly promoted teams. Izola are at 7th, while Zavrc are occupying 9th spot, 2 points from safety.

Spring will be very interesting.

My key matches will be:

- Mura (A), Rd 20
- Triglav (H), Rd 21
- Bela Krajina (A), Rd 24

Back-to-back Mura and Triglav games will be tough. I don't like the fact that the Mura away game comes first as it might harm morale.

Club Info (http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/909/information10bq9.jpg)

A much improved season, unlike last year it wasn't a nailbiting end to the season. Largely due to the poor standard of Fylkir and Stjarnan we were safe from relegation with about 4 games to play. We have become much harder to beat and my young centre backs are beginning to mature into the potentially top class players I hoped they would. We still lack a class striker and after moving to a 4-4-2 formation this season, it has really shown with only 9 goals scored between my 4 strikers!

Upper League Cup didn't go well. For those that don't know it's a sort of pre season cup where there are two groups of 8 teams. Top 4 in each group qualify for the quarter finals, etc, etc.
Well this is how we did (http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8264/uppercup10yi9.jpg) http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
Then there is the Icelandic Cup (http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/9599/cup10xu8.jpg) which we also flopped in.

So next season's aims are to continue progress in the league but more importantly go on a money spinning cup run.

Meldert, Belgium - December 13th 2009

Mid-season table (http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z9/CoachFlu/Meld/BelgianThirdDivisionA0912.jpg)

Media prediction: 10th
Board expectation: safe mid-table

With that in mind, being top of the table to go into the winter break is something I should only be pleased about. But we gave away some valuable points in the last few matches, which could have put us several points clear.

34 goals scored in 15 matches is certainly very good, but we drew four of our last five matches - three of them scoreless - despite being by far the dominant team. This one (http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z9/CoachFlu/Meld/MeldertvKelmis0-0.jpg) was the most frustrating of the four. The others were a touch less extreme, but still enough to curse at the screen and call the game a dirty rotten cheater.

Luckily the other teams at the top lost some points as well, and so it remains a tight affair. My defense has been absolutely spectacular so far though, and if we can keep that up we have a good chance of pulling this off.
At least we managed to sneak into first place on match day 10, so we already secured the playoff spot.

Four of the back five players are the same as last season, but the strengthened midfield plays an important part in our great defense as well (by simply being able to keep the ball in the team a lot, and spending a lot of time on the opposition's half).

In midfield/attack, only Matthew Bartholomew, my star Trini&Tobago striker - who was called up for the Gold Cup last May and since earned 11 caps - remained in the starting eleven. The other five are loan players, mostly from First Division teams.

The reliance on loan players has multiple benefits. Not only does it strengthen the team considerably (perhaps even a bit too much so - I didn't quite expect to get all those players). It also allows me to stay firmly under the wage budget limit, so my financial situation is improving - slowly but surely - each month.

That'll be helpful in the long run, because with a 2400 stadium and basic training and youth facilities, we'll need to do some major investing in coming years.

But promotion to the Second Division is the first objective, and I'll be disappointed if we don't manage to do that this season.

gundo

you can take me off the list for now. strokspor [or whatever they were called] were as bad as i expected. i finished dead last, relegated in march, and obviously sacked.

i'm now playing the same season as the other team i had on offer, puchev. total contrast. i'm approaching the midseason break and i'm in 3rd and looking pretty hot. the difference between the 2 sides in terms of quality of players i'm able to attract is incredible.

i doubt i'll be promoted in my first season, but its not impossible. i'm really just giving myself a feel for the league before i start properly when the official patch is released http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
