TheUsualSuspect9
Right basically, the Mrs has got me one of these notebooks for xmas, like a really small laptop only thing its missing really is a cd drive cos theres no room for on. So what i want to know, is there anyway i can get FM onto it? Ive already got the game on disc so don't want to download it on Steam and pay for it again. Is there anyway i can do it? Installing to an external hardrive maybe and then plugging that into the notebook and playing FM directly from that?:confused::confused:
TheOriginalJez
If you have installs left you can download it from Steam for free - in steam there's an option to 'authenticate a game' - enter your code into that and it will download the game for you

Kewell08
Other option: plug in an external DVD drive, install and activate and then unplug. You don't need the disc to run the game.

TheOriginalJez
Also just as a side note as someone else asked something similar too - installing to an external hdd from another computer will not work - you must install the game on the computer you want to run it on regardless of whether you install the files to an external hard drive or not - it's the same with any major program, and twofold with FM09 because as well as the usual registry edits etc which need to be done to each computer there's also the authentication which is unique to each computer - so in fact you can't even install it on both comps and use the same game files with 09 - you can use the same save game directory but not the same game files. TheUsualSuspect9
Ok...ive downloaded Steam on my notebook and downloaded my FM09 onto it but now when i try to open the game it asks for my code, so i put my code in and it comes up saying i have already used this code and i need to get a new one from SI?! Kewell08
Make sure you are logged out of Steam on the other computer.
TheUsualSuspect9
Make sure you are logged out of Steam on the other computer. Yup logged out on the other computer? It brings up SoftAnchor for me to avtivate the game? Why not just do it on Steam?
Kewell08
No idea to be honest, I'm just regurgitating what I've read elsewhere on these forums. An external DVD drive shouldn't cost too much and it should be a decent investment -- you can use it every time you want to put something on the notebook, so I'd go with that option. TheUsualSuspect9
Got it activated now....but now theres a new problem. I try to load the game and it doesn't come up? try double clicking again but it says FM is already running?
Kewell08
Ctrl+Alt+Del, processes, fm.exe, end process. That will kill it and try to start it again.
sleepwalkingpolarbear
Ha I know a band called the Usual suspects from around the newcastle area... Its unlikely you're going to get fm09 to run on a netbook due to the resolution of the screen and the weak atom processor. Older version may work. Kewell08
Did he say netbook? It says notebook (any CD drive-less laptop?) but maybe he means netbook...
