Bought the disk, updated via steam....

Dunno where to post this, its not really an issue as such...

I bought the game from a shop, and updated the 1st patch via bit torrent.

After reading on here that you preffered us gamers to update via steam, I did so for patch no.2.

Now I have this wierd thing where I have an old .exe which starts version v9.1, and a steam exe for 9.2.

Steam seems to have created all its own game files on my C drive (I run it from my d drive).

I dont really like starting the game through steam, as you need an online connection to play, and it much better and is far less intrusive playing it from the cd installation

My question is this:

Can I download the torrent update and apply this without buggering everything up?

You don't actually need to be online to play through Steam... just copy the Steam version of the .exe to the desktop and run that straight. If it's two different installations as it seems to be I would think it's safe to patch the other version as well. Don't quote me on that though.

Either way, I am not entirely happy about having an installation of something that I didnt do myself. The only reason I had steam was for an old xcom game. When did it install Fm2009?

I can run mine even when steam isn't running. I just copied the .exe from the steam files onto the desktop and it doesn't load up steam when I start it up.

I was using the exe steam created. Looked like it was the same target.
