Possible database error is causing me a headache

I just started a new career game and have found myself at a club named Jaszberenyi in Hungary. The club is semi-pro and the players are on less than £50 each. There is one goalkeeper, who is not the best at the club, that is on a huge £400 a week. It is crippling me before I have even done much.

I've tried to offer him a new contract, at a significantly reduced wage, but I doubt he will accept. I tried to fob him off to another club, but since he has only just joined he doesn't want to leave and that is putting other clubs off.

Any ideas what to do?

I am actually leaning towards using a save game editor and changing his wage. I have never done such a thing and I hate the idea but this must be the wrong wage. For people who have used these editors, is there anything that can be messed up if I change his wage? I assume he won't become unhappy?
