joeissimo
I did this for couple of times and both times the board is mad and gave me a utimatum for me to resign to save face or they would sack me...so does that mean its not possible I apply for a higher jobs while im managing a club? Super Bladesman
It's always a risk - your current employer won't be happy if they find out you're actively seeking to leave.
4457
Depends on how kind your board is. Some boards will say they "understand" your decision (seen that at least once before).
dave byrd
They say resign or they'll sack you but they never do in my experience. Managing Real Madrid i expressed interest in the liverpool and bayern posts but they didn't sack me and i kept my job.
CaptainPlanet
The wording of the board message doesn't say that they'll sack you, it's really just an expression of their unhappiness that you want to leave. Whenever I've had this in previous versions of FM they haven't actually sacked me. I've not tried this in FM09 yet though.
joeissimo
Well for me 1 time i got the sack another time i kept my job
joeissimo
in previous version they only reveal their unhappiness and they wont do anything,if you do it few more times then they may sack you i think
Micado
Can go either way. From Ajax in FM08 I declared intrests in Barca job and the board could understand it. I didn't got the job, later I declared interest in the Fullham job (they were in the premier league, sitting dead last) then the board gave me the ultimatum, I ignored this and got sacked. I depends on reputation I think, Barca was doing average in La Liga (5th or 6th) and were still in the CL. Fullham was dead last and out of all the cups, while my Ajax team was 1st (shared with PSV) and still in the Eufa cup.
CaptainPlanet
Maybe depends on your relationship with the board, how long you've been at the club and the personality of your chairman.
NeilUK
Agree with the last post. In my experience I have had two responses One was when I had been at Leeds for 4 years and got them to the Premiership, I was very popular with the board. Their message was more a case of being desperately keen for me to stay and was a message to the media more than me. Another time I had only been at Rangers a year or so with mixed results and expressed an interest in the Chelsea job, they weren't happy and I got the "resign or be sacked" message. Seems realistic to me, I hadn't been there long enough to build up a strong enough relationship with the board.
joeissimo
right,i was only at the club for a week so i guess i deserved the sack!
buttes
Why would they find out you had applied for other jobs anyway? Seems a bit unrealistic to me..
Micado
Why would they find out you had applied for other jobs anyway? Seems a bit unrealistic to me.. If you declare intrest, then this will be done via the media. I assume that the board also read news papers etc. If you apply, then irl, both clubs have to agree a fee for the remainder of the contract, see even in this way the should know it. So, realistic in my opinion
DB11
I just applied for Man City job whilst managing Swindon and the board didn't say anything about it. Before when I have applied for jobs in the CCC whilst at Swindon the fans said they've wanted my head
