Transfer - I'm confused?!?

Ok, so I'm Liverpool boss, in my third season, haven't won anything but not performing too badly. Going through the player search and notice that Kaka is interested - I'll have some of that me thinks!

Put in a bid of £37 million, pretty much all my kitty.

AC Milan reject it and instead say they'll settle for £70 odd million (I forget the exact number)

I counter that with £35 million up front, and another £10 million over the next 2 years. Total transfer £40 million.

Now the confusing bit....

AC Milan come back with: they'll accept £35 million up front and another £1.75 million over the next 2 years. Total transfer £36.75 million.

What? Haven't they just negotiated themselves out of around 9 million pounds? I don't understand the logic!

SI say the transfer system is better because it has been re-written but I think it's worse to be honest. Teams are trying to buy more realistic players fair enough but when they are accepting/rejecting/negotiating transfers they completely mees it up in my game. Might work better on other peoples games though.
