A forward arrow means make frequent forward runs.

A backward arrow means rarely make forward runs.

In previous games the arrows did not mean make runs. A forward arrow meant move to this position when in possesion of the ball.

A back arrow meant move here when the ball is lost.

Until the new position was reached the player ignored everything else going on in the game. This is why they were removed.

so why even have arrows at all you already have the slider option fwd runs.

They are not arrows. They are just indicators that your players will make either a lot of fwd runs, mixed fwd runs, or few fwd runs. It's just to help you keep track of your system.
