I would use Uniloc if Steam isn't installed on your computer already.

uniloc then install patch, easier

how do i uninstall steam?

i clicked on the wrong one. i ment to use uniloc after the advice but clicked on steam.

Go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs. Find it in the list and you can Change/Uninstall.

Uniloc then patch for sure.

Yes you can totally cheat on either and use the editor but if you choose steam to install the game you will need all the luck in the world to get it to run.

maybe something wrong with your dvd, either that or you may have just downloaded the crack version. NEVER heard of that problem for anyone else, don't know if you'd be the only 1 out of 250,000 dvd sales though. Would be extremely unlikely

Just tried to remove steam as it is causing me loads of issues while trying to run the game. When I did so however, I have been told that another application has exclusive access to steam and to close all other applications? They are all closed!! Any ideas guys??

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and find a process which may be titled Steam or similar. End that Process and try again. If there are multiple try to end them all.

Did you authenticate through Steam? If so, did you install to the default location?

no, i didnt get an option to do that

To do which? Authenticate or install somewhere else? If you weren't given an install location option, assume it's gone to the default. The default data editor locations are:

Authenticated through Uniloc/Phone

C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\tools\data editor

Authenticated through Steam

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2009\tools\data editor

i cant find it anywhere. i go as far as the football manager 2009 part but there is nothing saying tools

still not working mate, the serch doesn't reconise it

I'm afraid I don't know what else you can do then. Have you tried both addresses (just in case it's installed oddly or something)?
