FM 2009 Online

HI!
my friend and i bought the game today to play it online but so far we were unable to do it.
Since we've never played it online or in a network, i thought someone here could help us.
Could someone please explain how to do it?
We already tried to follow the instruction manual but he cannot get connected to my server.
Is there something we're doing wrong or any other solution?
