tactic difference in away games

Recommended Posts

I have found that playing a slower tempo with a counter attacking style works very well. I am currently playing in league one and lost the first four away games (won five home games) so decided to spend an hour or so tweaking and meddling with a counter attacking "soak up pressure" modified 4-5-1. I play two of the three central midfielders as defensive midfielders who are encouraged to get forward for set pieces. My other central midfielder sits behind those two, but is an attacking midfielder, which allows for both types of play; sitting back and protecting the defence, along with joining the attacks when possible.

My one striker holds up the play so my wingers can join in. Five clean sheets in a row away from home :D
