Strange media question

I'm managing tranmere in English league one and had to giggle when up came the "highlight" of my assistants pre match press conference. He was asked who he felt should be made european footballer of year, according to the story my squad should respond well to his answer lionel messi. A. Why the question to a team at this level?

B. Why the response off the players and does this show the press conferences have no impact.
