Season Reviews

Recommended Posts

Hope this thread has a place on the forums. Basically intend it for people to kind of check in and past their season reviews? I know people will obviously write their career threads etc... and boast about things but thought something like this may be a nice port of call for people to post stuff.

So having just finished my first season here is my season in review.

Season 1

Transfers In;

Vito Mannone 650k

Jack Wilshire 1.3 million

Rodney Snejder 250k

Tomas Rosicky 3.1 million

Transfers Out;

Jamie Ashdown 650k

Arnold Mvemba 1.2 million

Lauren 170k

Linvoy Primus loan

Jerome Thomas 500k

I became manager of the glorious Portsmouth FC, FA Cup Holders and all... I posted on here with a HELP ME! thread and it's fair to say I could not get going and at the turn of the year here is what the league table looked like;

http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m321/gamingcorner/Football%20Manager/Fm4.jpg

Down in 16th which was then my highest position of the season! Out of the Uefa Cup (lost on penalties to Fenerbache) and League Cup and my highest scorer was Defoe who had just 3 goals in 20 odd appearances. I chopped and changed from 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 3-5-2 and couldn't even seem to get any shots away!

However changed my formation to a 4-1-3-2 so like a diamond but with the central midfield where the rest of the midfielders are and the wingers out wide and having forward runs set. I am quite pleased with as is my own formation, not something I thought I would be able to do when I first started the game. But thought about each option. I had previously used a tactic from 08 of easy one's but didn't seem to work with my players so started a fresh with thoughts in mind from what had and hadn't work from each of the tactics I had tried.

My season finished like this;

http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m321/gamingcorner/Football%20Manager/Fm2.jpg

Considering how badly I started I am pretty pleased with my final position. I had got up to 7th but had a terrible last 8 games to the season...Had to have a grey keeper on the bench end of season as James gave away a penalty and got sent off and other keepers were injuoed...

Highest Average Rating; Mannone 7.41

Most Assists; Kranjcar 7

Most Goals; Crouch 14 in 44

My Player of the Season; Mannone played 29 conceded 31 aveage of 7.41

Flop; Armaud Traore - never got going really...

Result of the Season; Tough call...beat both Liverpool (2-0) and Arsenal (2-1)

Have managed to secure the following Bosmans ready for next season;

Kamil Zayatte

Daniel Sturridge

Theo Walcott

Michael Mancienne

Plus got the following players coming in for money;

Joleon Lescott 3 million

Asier Del Horno 2 million

and Ayub Daud on loan.

Transfers Out;

Linvoy Primus Free

H Hreidarsson Free

Djimi Traore Free

Glen Little Free

Kanu Free

Rodney Sneijder Loan

Jack Wilshere Loan

Hope people embrace this thread rather than shoot it down, time shall tell I guess. Use any old format you want, don't want people to think I am trying to muscle in and say here's my review now follow suit and post the same way.

This is my first team starting 11 now;

Well second season over and done with...still no trophies but after last seasons 15th, finished a fantastic 5th! If it wasn't for an end of season slump where I lost to Liverpool, Chelsea and Bolton things could have been much better!

Here is what the league table looks like;

1st Chelsea 74pts

2nd Man Utd 70

3rd Liverpool 70

4th Man City 65

5th Portsmouth 65

6th Middlesboro 59

So where do I go from here? Onwards and upwards, my summer signings have been;

Eyong Enoh Free

Klaas Jan Huntelaar Free

Jesus Navas Free

Alvaro Arbeloa Free

Owen Garvan 6million (his stats shot up last season for the tractor boys!)

Players Out;

Sol Campbell Free

Sean Davis Free

David Nugent 2.5 million (no goals in 2 seasons!)

Can't believe I got Huntelaar! Biggest disappointment last season was Rosicky only played 16 games because of injury but ended with an average of 7.36 which was pretty good..

Anyway my best XI for the coming season is going to be as follows;

....................James

Johnson............Distin.........Lescott..........Del Horno

.........................Diarra....................

Navas................Garvan...........................Rosicky

..................Defoe..............Huntelaar...........

Means Walcott will now join Wilshere on the bench!

Well I started out at FC Omniworld in Holland. I was asked just to improve the squad which was quite a tall order as no one of any value wanted to join.

Started out woefully slow but eventually started picking up results, although I never really found any rhythm (3 Consecutive wins, 8 without defeat, 7 without a win, 3 straight losses being the record) and tailed off badly in the final 12 games, despite picking up 3 wins in the final 3 games.

Linger hit 12 goals for the season, but was largely disappointing, our back-up GK seemed to be better than our starting GK, and played more of the season.

Finished 8th with a 14-9-15 W-D-L record scoring 41 goals and conceding 40, about 12 or so less than all other teams in both departments.

Bought a great DC for 45k to sure up the D-line whilst bringing in a couple of freebie AMC's to improve my attacking options, although my forwards still need improvement. The board just want me to improve the squad again, but I feel we could push for a top 5 finish.

Ok.. sorry for not updating about season 2.

Well, I won the league and Euro Cup with At. Madrid in season 2.

Season 2 I had 111m as transfer budget. :)

Transfer in 2009/10

Miguel Veloso - 18m from Sporting CP (big flop..)

Igor Akinfeev - 20m from CSKA Moscow (class! made Ochoa sat the bench for the whole season besides Euro Cup competitions, he was cup-tied :()

Daniel Opare - 20m from R.Madrid (better than Rafinha, might be looking to sell Rafinha. However, Opare doesn't have the best form though. Perhaps it's the age-factor..)

Transfer out 2009/10

Miguel De las Cuevas to Frankfurt for 1.9M

Giourkas Seitaridis to West Ham for 1.9M

Luis Garcia to West Brom for 1.1M

Ze Castro to Belenenses for 130K.

Gregory Coupet to Osasuna for 190K. (Osasuna relegated. He played 23 games and conceded 49 goals! :O)

Didi to Aguilas on free transfer.

De Abreu to Gil Vicente on free transfer.

Diego Forlan to Middlesbrough for 7.25M. (sort of regretted selling him. Might as well keep him and sell Huntelaar.. who had been the BIGGEST FLOP for my squad this season)

Cleber Santana to Hercules for 85K.

Star players of 2009/10 season

Maxi Rodriguez (as ever) - Av Rating of 7.12, played 50 scored 12 and assisted 5.

Pavel Pogrebnyak - Av Rating of 7.43, played 53 scored 12 and assisted 8.

Igor Akinfeev - Av Rating of 7.41, played 41 but only conceded 15!

Conclusion: Player of the year for At.Madrid goes to.. IGOR AKINFEEV!

Best youth player of 2009/10 season for At. Madrid

Surprisingly.. it goes to the unknown Pichu Atienza who was promoted from Atletico Madrid "B" after Heitinga was injured. He replaced him at the DC slot and had never looked back since.

Spanish league player of the year

Winner - Raul from Real Madrid.

Runner up - Ruud Van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid.

Spanish league young player of the year

Winner - Bojan from Barcelona.

Runner up - Gonzalo Higuan from Real Madrid.

World Player of the year

Winner - Karim Benzema from Lyon.

Runner up - Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Overall Team performance for At. Madrid

European Champions Cup - Final (Runner-up, lost to Real Madrid 4-0 as Ochoa had a terrible game, alongside with the defence :()

European Super Cup - Runner-up to Sampdoria.

Liga BBVA - 1st (Champions)

Spanish Cup - Quarter Final (knocked out by Real Madrid again.)

Spanish Super Cup - Winner.

Well just finished my 3rd Season and my biggest success yet!

I won not 1 but 2 cups! The League Cup and FA Cup were mine for the taking! Delighted with that, more disappointed with getting knocked out of the Uefa Cup again in the 1st round. Also missed out on the Champs League again by a whisker;

1st Chelsea 76pts

2nd Liverpool 72

3rd Arsenal 66

4th Man Utd 65

5th Portsmouth 64

6th Man City 59

Top Scorer was Defoe with 15 goals in all comps that was in 53 games though.

So more pushing on for the champs league and got to replace David James as he is retiring, big loss but he is 40 now so it is fair enough.

Ive just finished my 4th season with Altrincham and won league 2 by 19 points, i also won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. I got to the fourth round of the fa cup but was knocked out by Tranmere (disappointing).

Top Scorer was Joe O'Neil with 25 goals in 60 games.

After the first season i managed to bag the FA Cup and finished inside the top 10, so this season i was looking to improve.

Started the season by beating Man Utd in the community shield on penalties but then...

First half of the season didnt go well using the JamboDave 3-5-2. I was languishing close to the relegation zone but not doing so bad that i was getting the dreaded vote of confidence.

Come January a new midfielder was needed so i signed Deco from Chelsea for £2.2m and had an imdiate impact scoring a few goals in his first few games.

As the season continued into February i was still struggerling in the league but fortunately i was still in the Uefa Cup and come the end of ebruary i beat Leeds in the league cup final 2-0 with Theo Walcott and Dean Ashton the scorers.

I decided then that it was time to change my tactics as it wasnt working in the league. So i switched to TheBugels4-3-3 and it proved to be a big success. Although we got knocked out of the FA Cup 5th round by Liverpool on penalties we continued to push on in the league and eventually made it to the top half.

Come the end of the season we had battled up to 6th and had 3 games to play within the last week of the season. Unfortunately we failed to win our last 2 games which were proberbly down to very low fitness.

But we then had Man City in the UEFA cup final and after a tense game. Bellamy came off the bench to score in the 77th minute to give us a 1-0 victory. Needless to say the board and fans were happy with the outcome.

Top Scorer: Mikel / Owen - 15 goals

Top Assist: Deco / Fred - 9 assists

Most Appearances: Michael Owen - 59 games

Highest Rating: Fred - 7.32

My Player of season: Mikel

Flop of the season: Ander Murillo

Result of the season: Beating Man City 1-0 in Uefa final

Have managed to secure the following Bosmans ready for next season:

Jesus Navas

Joe Hart

Klass-Jan Huntelaar

Georginio Wijnaldum

Final League Table

Well finished Season 4 and rescued my season from the brink of disaster. After 23 games I was in 14th place just 4 points above relegation. I managed to pull myself together and went on a great run and hauled myself up to 9th where I finished. Disappointing after two 5th place finishes in the last two seasons but considering how bad I was doing I am more than pleased.

Transfer In;

James Vaughan Free

Jamie O Hara Free

Dan Gosling Free

Peter Meier 3.5 mil

Rafael Sobis 4.4 mil

Raul Mohamed 2.5 mil

Transfers Out;

Niko Kranjcar 3.5 mil

Omar Koroma Loan

David James Retired.

Top Scorer; Hunterlaar 12 goals in 59 games.

Most Assists; Rosicky 6 in 42 games

Highest Average Rating; Diarra 7.55

Most Appearances; Hunterlaar 59

Best Player; Vito Mannone (flawless in replacing the retired david james, conceded just 26 goals in 55 games)

Worst Player; Peter Crouch (just one goal in 21 games!)

I plan on using Bugles 4-3-3 to try and get myself more goals only managed 27 in the league. I have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to attacking players; Defoe, Hunterlar, Walcott, Rosicky, Enoh, Sobis, Crouch, Vaughan time I made use of it...

So in 4 seasons my trophy haul is as follows;

FA Cup x 2

League Cup

Community Shield

Is that a fair old haul?

Season 1 as Chelsea:

Top 4 - Chelsea 84pts , Man Utd 83pts , Liverpool 80pts , Arsenal 79pts.

Transfers in: Akinfeev 11m, Ospina People in here said he was good)1m ,Nesta 22m, Helmes 5m and Huntelaar 10m.

Top 5 scorers: Huntelaar- 26, Drogba- 21 Deco- 14, Helmes- 13 and Anelka- 11.

Edit: i put on 10 for some reason corrected them now :)

Link to post
Share on other sites

the top bargain was probably Akinfeev as Cech got injured in january for 2 months or Helmes scoring 13 goals and bout for 5m, now he worth 12m Yay!

For Huntelaar i had to keep bidding 10m and then He got put on the transfer list (My good plan :))

Season 2:

Transfers in:

Campbell, Onuoha, Senderos, De Silvestri, Wheater, Borges, Adler, Paloschi, Jovetic and Barbarez all on Bosmans and most of them go out on loan. Mabiala 2m, Warnock 10m Martinez 16m and Vaughan 10m.

Transfers out:

Alex 7m, Bridge 5m, Ballack 4m and Belleti 11m (Man City)

MAJOR CRISIS!

Drogba Anelka and Carvalho have rejected my contract offer and gone away on Frees and i only got Huntelaar, Vaughan and Helmes who is out injured for 2 months. I might have to turn to a 451 now!

Link to post

Top 4 - Chelsea 94pts , Man Utd 93pts , Liverpool 90pts , Arsenal 89pts.

Sorry, I just can't believe that, that could never happen only unless all the other teams had really poor amount of points, sorry, can't believe it.

Ive corrected the top 4 and now it looks more realistic :)

Really, so what did you do write it on a piece of paper as a little fantasy league and then put random points there, this is about FOOTBALL MANAGER HANDHELD and your review for your season not something you make up.

I wasnt doing well with Chelsea so i applied for the Leeds joband got it :). They got into the Championship in the first season and i'm having a hard time surviving in the Championshp with them. Becchio, Beckford and Howson left but Delph is still there but not playing that well. Leeds top 3 players have all gone so im struggling to survive but im 18th at the moment with 20 games played and a win over Hull and a draw against Everton who somehow got relegated lol. Any thoughts about this?

Howson isn't one of our top three players... I'd say Delph > Howson :p
