It's a combination of your processor, and RAM that are the main factors which influence the speed that the game runs at. The graphics card also plays a significant role, but mainly for the 3D aspect of the game.

Generally, you would see an improvement in how smooth the game runs, yes. Think of RAM as the space on your work desk, so you would be able to add more leagues and see a slight improvement in speed, but to get a significant amount of improvement in speed performance for the game, you would need a better processor. It depends on how much memory you have in your machine. It is most likely than an increase of memory will improve the performance of FM.

RAM would help a bit, but not as much as getting a faster processer.

Are you running on XP, or Vista?

A Duron 1.3Ghz I believe is lower than the minimum spec (at least it is if you are running Vista), so I would recommend a better processor as well.

That isn't an issue. FM09 is very processor intensive because it's mainly a number-crunching program.

Your processor is a single core and on the lower end of schemes. Even if you increase the RAM to the maximum that your motherboard can handle, it would not make much of a significant difference since your processor would still perform at the same rate. With the current development and stage of FM, a dual core processor is what you should be looking at to have a smooth performance.
