Doing my head in

What ever happened to buying a game inserting it entering a license key and being able play it???

I am getting infuriated with this, I put my disc in and had to register it using the code on the instructions via steam. I still can't play the damn thing without first logging into steam first.

Why is it not on my pc? Why do I have to use steam?

If I wanted it this way I would have just downloaded it in the first place, what's the point in having the disc if it doesn't do anything?

If anybody knows how I can play this game in the normal way (without being connected to the internet / steam) please let me know.
