Cannot run game: Failed to set up graphics system

I have seen links to problems such as this but there has been no definitive answer to the question asked. So i will ask again in hope of an appropriate reply.

Why do i keep getting this error 'Cannot run game: Failed to set up graphics system '?

What is the cause of this problem and what should or do you suggest i do to fix the problem?

I havent had any problems with installation this is my only problem and i cant seem to fix it. I really im frustrated at the moment because i really want to play this saving some money in order to buy it over the last month in order to find it dont bloody work!

Any help would be muchly appreciated!!!

theres a directx update that you need. download that (its a 400+mb file) and install it.

Anyone have this link? I'm getting seriously annoyed too. Same problem.

Also is there any guarantee that after i've installed directx that the game will work? Its annoying that i've already spent 4 hours trying to complete the installation, and i've got to wait another 2 hours for directx to download, just to find it wont work....

Oh i loved the good old days when you just inserted a cd and the game just came on, none of this verification installation boll ocks.
