Authenticitating and automatic patching with steam

Three questions- 1) If i authenticitate and select automatic patching will i get the patch out that day automatically or will i have to go to si to download it separately then with later patches get them automatically

2) Does activate just simply mean when you install/ Get the game running

3) When installing and authenticitating through steam do you have to have internet

patch installl is done automatically it just downloads it and does everything by itself
