SI can we have some help

2 issues:-

I could check this easily so here's a list of all the dxdiags posted in that thread

2. latest driver for their graphics card

Not going to check this but only really applies to those with 128 MB memory minimum.

------------

So for those with 128 MB and the latest drivers installed, questioning why there is an issue is valid. For those with less than the mimimum then I don't see how SI can help them.

Should someone from SI look at all of those dxdiags to check Display Memory and whether or not the graphics card is up to date, and then search online for a more up to date driver and point the poster in that direction? Or should the people with the issue read the minimum specs and read responses in the thread stating 'try updating your graphics card drivers' and then show a little initiative and find out if there is a more recent driver than the one they have installed?

Not being a smartarse just showing the two sides of the argument in terms of expectations of customer support. A little bit of googling and taking 20/30 minutes to read a few websites would teach you the little bit needed to be able to look at those two elements of the dxdiag and figure out if it is part of the issue.

Just to clarify not looking for an argument or attacking you personally. Just pointing out the viewpoints on this 'issue'. For me the Intel GMA problem is more of an issue than people with less than the minimum display memory not being able to get the demo to install. I'd rather if someone from SI took the time to post some info on that rather than responding to every single dxdiag that people post without reading what has already been stated about the minimum display memory requirements.

I think the guys at SI will be asleep, havent seen a reply for a while. They have worked hard to get this far. They are due a rest. I'm sure they al just want a good nights sleep before they start on the hundreds of issues that have been reported since the demo went live.

Can you tell me how to upgrade my graphics card? Thats all i need because FM08 runs smooth on my computer and the demo should work because FM08 took up more space than the demo and i've uninstalled FM08!

If you mean update your graphics card drivers then:-

1. Run dxdiag

How to get your Dxdiag information

Windows XP

1. Click on “Start”

2. Click on “Run”

3. In the text prompt box that appears type “dxdiag” and click ok.

4. Once the dxdiag program has finished scanning your machine click “Save All Information” save this to a place you will remember.

5. It will save it to a text document called DxDiag by default

Windows Vista

1. Click on “Start”

2. Click inside the search box

3. In the search box type “dxdiag” and click ok.

4. Once the dxdiag program has finished scanning your machine click “Save All Information” save this to a place you will remember.

5. It will save it to a text document called DxDiag by default

2. Open the DxDiag text file you just saved. Scroll down to the section 'Display Devices'. Check the value next to 'Display Memory'. Then check the date next to 'Driver Date/Size' and the value next to 'Driver Version'.

3. To check if there is a newer driver version for your graphics card:-

(i) go to your machine manufacturers website and check their support section. This will typically have a date and/or version number associated with the most recent graphics driver release. Compare this to your dxdiag report values. If the date is later then download the driver and follow the installation process

(ii) alternatively go to the manufacturer of your graphics card website and check their support area for a newer driver

--------------------

Two possible issues (probably more but I don't know enough technically)

1. Laptop manufacturers may not support latest releases by original graphics card manufacturers. Thus if you decide to install direct from the graphics card manufacturer you do so at your own risk with respect to system stability etc.

2. A general rule of thumb is that desktops tend to be more compatible with unsupported graphics card manufacturer driver updates than laptops (not based on experience but reading various 'expert opinions' so open to correction from those with first hand regular experience)

---------------------

Before updating your driver with a card manufacturer update as opposed to machine manufacturer update, set a system restore point. A quick google will reveal how to do this on whichever operting system you are on. (XP Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore). So if something goes wrong you can get back to where you were. All you are doing is changing software and doing so is not going to render your machine inoperable permanently (not in my experience anyway :)). It might involve drastic measures but there will generally be a fix if a software change causes issues.

No doubt some of the more technically minded will poke holes in that but following those instructions has helped me and others in the past with graphics issues.

Display Memory: 64.0 MB

The irony of it all :D My first post in this thread pretty much covers what your issue might well be. I even mentioned how people don't actually read what people post and just skim. If the game is set up to check specs and is told the minimum is 128MB then it might be a cause for this issue but that is just wild speculation on my part.

In any case

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_CEL_1000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

suggests you have the latest Dell recommended driver for your machine.

Read my prior post about installing non system manufacturer supported drivers on a laptop before trying the following card manufacturer newer driver. Or go here and read what SiS themselves have to say

http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/

then follow the links. Then

Windows XP > IGP Drivers > SiS 650 etc then download the most recent one SiS UniVGA3 Graphics Driver which is from 2006. Follow whatever instructions there are (usually included as a 'READ ME' text file) to update your drivers. Set a system restore point before installing the newer drivers just in case.

Just to reiterate doing this can potentially mess up your machine (not never work again but potentially pain in the arse to fix if you don't set a system restore point). SO DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

But as I said the mimimum is stated as 128 MB. You have 64 MB. Thus updating your drivers might not make any difference but only someone from SI can answer that question.

On the Dell link click the plus next to Video. Look at the date.

Now compare that to what you posted above from dxdiag next to Driver Date/Size.

Same date therefore there is no more up to date driver that is supported by Dell themselves.

So your next port of call is the manufacturer of your graphics card. I have posted above the link and also the warnings with regards to using newer drivers not supported by the system manufacturer.

Being the internet this is going to come across as me being a dick but I have to ask. Did you actually read anything I posted already? My original post explained it already. If you're looking for step by step because you are afraid of messing up your machine fair enough but the truth is I have no clue what effect installing the SiS drivers might have. All I'm saying is you can set a system restore point, install the SiS newer drivers, and if your machine goes haywire just restore your machine to the point prior to the installation.

One last time for those in the cheap seats ;)

First Post in Demo Specs thread:-

PC System Requirements

OS - Windows Vista or XP

Processor Speed - Vista - 2.0GHz, XP - 1.4GHz Memory - Vista - 1GB, XP - 512MB Videocard - 128MB Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra, ATI Radeon 9800, Intel 82915G/82910GL or greater.

Your dxdiag

Display Memory: 64.0 MB

As I said

The irony of it all :D

Seriously, if there was a 'smacks head' smilie I'd be putting it right here :D

If 128 MB is the minimum regardless of wanting to use 3D or not, then no.

If SI release some kind of patch or if the boxed version is different to the demo (don't even know if it's possible as I know nowt of how it all works) such that it allows the user to say 'I just want my 2D' so as to bypass the 128 MB requirement (assuming it is the minimum to get 3D) and assuming it is no more graphically taxing than FM 08 with 3D completely disabled then you might have a lifeline.

But you know what happens when you assume something ;)

Maybe SI should incorporate into the installer an option for the 3d match engine to be installed and thus not needing the same type of graphics car array as current, could go back to same graphics set up that way as fm08 and everyone who can play 08 with know they can play 09.

Link to post

Yes, but they do not support graphics card with less than the minimum spec. There has to a be a cut off somewhere, they cant support every graphics card ever.

The problem is, now that the games contains 3D, all the graphics are rendered with DirectX, so old crappy cards will not work.

If you have a PC, a graphics card upgrade is simple. If you have a laptop, you need a new laptop.

From having a scan through the thread here alot of the system specs (especially on the Graphics Card side of things) won't meet the minimuim requirements.

I've tried to get some URL's together to places where you might be able to find the latest updates for your system (google if I've not covered your system). It might be worth checking you have the latest updates for your system

For those with branded machines (e.g. Dell, HP, Packard Bell) it's advised to visit the particular manufacturer website to find the latest drivers for your particular branded system.

I've downloaded a new driver but it doesn't make any difference! There must be another solution!

As I posted already the minimum is 128MB, you have 64MB.

There is the SI poster more or less confirming this although I may 'be putting words in his mouth'.

Without a 'disable the graphical extras so I can run it on 64MB like FM 08 did' option, your only solution is a new card or if not possible a new machine. Yes it sucks but such is life and the nature of progress.

I can get the 3D up no problem, my problem is the game stuttering every 1-2 seconds.:(

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS - 512Mb, I have installed the latest drivers from their site and it still does it. I even went into the NVIDIA options and changed all the options to performance over quality and it still stutters along.

The 3D mostly looks fine, I have no problem with the graphics but the stuttering makes it pretty much unwatchable.
