SI Staff Miles Jacobson Posted October 29, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted October 29, 2008 A 70 second version of what will become the TV advert for Football Manager 2009 has just been made available at www.youtube.co.uk/sigames The TV ad, which will be 20 seconds, will first be seen on Tuesday, November 4th, during the Champions League matches on UK TV. This is the first time that we've done TV advertising in the UK, so we're pretty excited about it. At some point next week, once the demo is out, I'll also post about some of the other marketing plans and promotions around the game in different countries, and reveal all about the "FM Club"... A True Fan
I like it. "It's what I do". Classic.
matt_neil41
That is actually pretty good but... It was 71 seconds.

PGB_SPURS_FM09
Cool i'll save that for when i get home!
SmurfDude
Nice trailer. It's good to see FM finally get some TV advertising
theking1
Maybe a reference to the 3d engine should've been made.Maybe a small clip of it in action it is after all the big selling point this time around
Baroslfc5
Very good, Who (staff/actor) is the Manager?
digsy11
The only negative is Miles isn't in it
jack_man
tbh, im not impressed.
Celts1888
Miles, see in FM 09 3D do the players do visible skills and tricks?
Terras-FM
How can you be not impressed jack
Matthew Le God
Good advert Surprised no use of the main new feature this year i.e. 3D engine
SI Staff Miles Jacobson Posted October 29, 2008 Author SI Staff Share Posted October 29, 2008 The TV ad is looking to entice new users to the game, who wouldn't know whether there has been, or hasn't been, 3d in the past. The print ads, and box, and online ads, will highlight the 3d match engine.
SCIAG
Meh, it's a decent trailer but it wouldn't make me buy it. The 08 one (If poem) would, though. That was a great trailer.
Geronimo360
Good advert Surprised no use of the main new feature this year i.e. 3D engine Its a good advert as the way its set up will catch the attention of a footy fan. If it was a tactics board or a 3D pitch they could mistake it for a something other than footy and walk past.
spankie
Is it me, or aren't the players are wearing a Watford kit?
dave byrd
Thats terrible. Looks cheap and tacky imo.
jack_man
How can you be not impressed jack Well, first of all release day 14th November. Same day as CoD:World at War. If i was still deciding which one to buy that advert would not swing me towards Footy man.
Fqdd
Yeah it isn't better than the IF trailer, but it's pretty good...
Taras_Shevchenko
MY God, one day the whole world will be playing FM! It's surely better than politics or the stock market speculations....
millsy1982
I like it and with one of the new features being the press conference it ties in nicely. Good job. When will see it on TV?
Mattioson Blue Boy
Nice work
Mattioson Blue Boy
The TV ad, which will be 20 seconds, will first be seen on Tuesday, November 4th, during the Champions League matches on UK TV. ^^^^
rsk360
looks good
Come Clarity
The first scene(s) look quite good, namely the press-conference bit. Unfortunately, as was an issue with last years 'If' advert, the limitations of the budget do come through with the on-the-field action. Nitpicky, would have gone with: "Why do you put yourself through this?" "Well, it's the greatest job on earth"
pompey4ever
looks good. nice job
Wee Aja
I like it. Also like Come Clarity's point as well. The anticipation builds further....
Johnson993
Nice trailer
Jonfun1980
I think it would have been better if it showed some of the game, like the new 3d engine or something. If I just watched that on TV I would be thinking Dream Team is coming back on or something.
FreddeCM
Well, first of all release day 14th November. Same day as CoD:World at War. If i was still deciding which one to buy that advert would not swing me towards Footy man. Hahahaha! wtf? COD5... Who fu**ing cares about that game? Real FM-fans only play one game: Football Manager. Thanks for the trailer. If 2k8trailer was 5/5 this is 3,5/5. Still like it!
Eles Gergo
wow it's way better then the last years edition i loved it
rbnrbn
tbh, im not impressed. nor i. but i suppose it would look laughable if they were to include screenshots of the 3D match engine.
arsenal_2111
Like what others have said, I don't think that it highlights the fact that it is a Football game. It looks a bit like an advertisment for a football match, "The biggest match of the year - only on ITV" sort of thing... But it is very well made, and should catch the attention of many football fans. Putting it on in the breaks of the CL is clever too. But I dread to think how much it cost! Mole_J
Looks good.
Twellman24
I love it. It captures the essence of FM 100%, even more for lower league managers. "That's what I do." Exactly. God job SI.
Terras-FM
Ignore everyone above, you won't be able to play it because of the authentication god? do you mean good
Neji
I'm not that impressed either. It's ok but there is nothing to show it is a management game except for the fm logo at the end. I can see this being one of those ads that you know you've seen but don't remember what it's about.
Andrew_
The TV ad is looking to entice new users to the game, who wouldn't know whether there has been, or hasn't been, 3d in the past. The print ads, and box, and online ads, will highlight the 3d match engine. If it's for enticing new users to the game then shouldn't there be at least some in game footage to show what the game's about?
Weller1980
excellent work, look very good
pnefc22
It's good but there is little about the game and to tell you about the managing aspect apart from the obvious name and the questions in the press conference.
Twellman24
This is not FIFA or PES, it's FM. If you put footage of the game it will look simple and boring for the untrained eye. That's why SI has to go with the essence of the game. I understand how an ad is supposed to catch new buyer's eyes, but that "That's what I do" made me feel strangely proud of being part of this community and this game. Being a lower leagues manager as I am, "That's what I do" is just spot on to what I get out of this game. I love the ad.
russ the womble
sloppy defending, that defender wouldnt get in my team! Nice ad although not sure about the music used. Guess it might have a different effect on tv rather than on youtube though.
AZBruntsfield
I liked it I see there's quite a few Nike ticks this year, is there a link up?
Kazza
I thought it was good; fast, pacey and good interplay between being a manager at various times of the match, pre-match interview, etc. Nice - grabs your attention.
jack_man
and reveal all about the "FM Club"... I wonder what this is?
Tafkans
Who's the manager in the video? He's got Phil Brown's stubble and jawline, but it's obviously not him - anyone famous?
playmaker
Who's the manager in the video? He's got Phil Brown's stubble and jawline, but it's obviously not him - anyone famous? Looks like the guy off the dvd cover to me - in which case, no it's not anyone famous.
BARNESDON
i was expecting alot better from the advert
