RAM or Ghz

Recommended Posts

Both

You'd want enough RAM to be able to run enough leagues and to be able to multi-task while FM is processing.

However, you'd also want a fast enough cpu or else the loading times will kill you :)

What's your specific amount of RAM and your cpu ?

If your RAM is only a 1.67ghz and your saying it's a pre-historic laptop, if you get FM09 I'd get settled in as it's going to take a while to play.

Sorry mate!

I always knew it would be abit slow so im not to bothered anyway if it takes longer, i get to spend more time on 09.

RAM is only a big factor when you have too little. That you need 4 gb with Vista is nonsense, in fact Vista 32 bit doesn't even recognize 4 gb IIRC. You probably won't use that amount if you play the game in a normal way (that is not selecting every league etc.). 2 gb is probably enough for both Vista and XP to play FM at this moment.

For a processor, have a dual or quad core as FM can use multiple cores. That enhances the speed significantly.

2gb of RAM or 4gb if you use Vista, and a quad core CPU will do the trick

4GB of ram is pointless SmurfDude unless you have a 64bit version of windows. I have 4GB but my 32bit version of vista home premium can only access 3.3 GB.

Think most people that have 4GB, like myself, simply got it because with the price of memory and the deals most sites offer it isn't much more to get 2x2GB sticks than it is to get 3x1GB sticks and then down the line if you move to 64bit vista or the like then you can easily and cheaply add a couple 2GB sticks to it as well.

i've got 2gb of ram and intel core 2 duo (2.2ghz) on 32bit vista, anyone reckon it's worth replacing one of the gig ram chips with a 2gb chip to take the total to 3gb? Is it likely to make much difference to the game?

it will make a difference i would do it

I got 4GB because I was unaware of the issues that the 32bit version of windows had with it. I probably should have done more research first.

i got 1gb of Ram and 1.67 Ghz. And on another note i cand find my graphics details anywhere?

You'll be fine. Just don't load too many leagues.

My brother plays FM08 on a computer with

3 ghz and 512 mb RAM and he is just fine. Can run 3 leagues without too much trouble.

You notice that it doesn't run very smooth, but it's not slow at all !

I played FM08 with 512 mb of RAM and 1.6GHz

I will be playing FM09 with 2GB of RAM and 2.0 GHz. :D

My recommended settings for 08 was a small database with England to League 2, but I often had England to Championship with Spain and Italys top leagues and it ran fine. However I'm looking forward to being able to run more leagues, fancy a big lower leagued career game as I've not been able to have one.

well it depends, if you have P3 @ 800 Mhz, 2Gb ram won't make the game any faster than with 512mb ...

your config must be ballanced

just give your config, which DB and how many leagues you play, and where you see the slowdown.

if I had 4Gb ram I would make a ram drive 1 Gb, it will speed saving game 10-15 times !

lol, it can always run faster and smoother thats what i tell myself when I upgrade my system lol.

Also used the excuse of "I'd do some work at home with it too" when in all honesty, I'd open up Dreamweaver and After effects and do nothing except for playing FM09 :D

Slackers FTW.

I'm in the same position, dual core Vista with 2GB RAM (2x1GB sticks), I will grab a 2GB stick and bump it up to 3GB RAM total before the full FM 09 release is out.

I have a Vista laptop with 1.6 dual core processor and 2gb of ram and I can run about 8/9 leagues fully (well apart from the lower regional leagues) quite comfortably in 08. Although sadly my com only recognises 2gb of memory as its over a year old but it more than does the job for me at the moment.

Stupid question - What's a RAM Drive? And how would I go about creating one (on Vista). If you could point me in the right direction via a link or something I would be most grateful.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Well i dont know if this is my graphics card but i went on 'Device Manager' and under 'Display Adapters' it says;

Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family

If this isnt the graphics card, could you let me know where to find it.

Also if my laptop isnt good enough i am going to buy and customise a new pc on

Not 100% sure on that card. Might be touch and go as I think that is a low spec one.

Try doing the check recommended on the 'Demo' thread.

You'll definitely be fine to run the game in 2D. Hopefully 3D as well.

Do the test or wait and download the demo to see for sure.

Don't want to start a new thread just for this so hope it can be answered here.

How many leagues do you think, I can run with this laptop?

How slow do you think it would be if I loaded all european leagues, say large database?

Intel core duo2 cpu 2.o ghz 2gb 32bit

cheers guys

Most of the major European ones, i'd say, and a large database.

You should be fine.

I think it should work with this graphics card. Try the demo to make sure though.

That's a similar laptop to mine actually.

On FM2008, I had Germany, France, Italy, Ireland and England all divisions running really well.

Not much has changed in terms of processing for FM2009. You will easily be able to run leagues from 4 countries (which I think will be the default recommendation for you). Indeed, you'll probably find you can run a lot more with that setup.

Hi, on my laptop i currently have 1gb of ram. I am on a 32 bit vista system and have 2 slots for memory ram sticks. I'm looking to upgrade my ram to 3gb...but is it ok to not have matching sticks in each slot, because i would have to get a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick.

Thanks in advance!

Broadly speaking, it should be fine. Make sure the RAM you are going to buy is compatible with your system and will fit in it before you buy it though.

If you are using a laptop and know what model it is, go here...

They will tell you exactly what RAM is good for your machine. a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick should be fine.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is effected by the Ghz/Ram? My computer is a 1.67Ghz dual core with 1Gb memory, and it ran usually a minimum of eight leagues with a large database without much problem. The only difference I noticed between having several leagues compared to one, was that setting up the manager shortlists and saving took significantly longer. The actual gameplay didn't seem too much slower, aside from being updated on transfers all of the time and being unable to interupt the scores screen.
