O\'Hara_fan
With a lack of expetise in Belgium, I thought I would take the ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge, and a short train ride to Liege to take charge of the well known team in Liverpool, Standard Liege, mainly playing them because they beat Everton and almost Liverpool. I'm up to the end of August 2007, so I'll update you guys on how I'm doing so far, then a sort of match by match basis. ---- End of August Update - Loving Leige Life Summer Transfers In Stepan Kucera : Club Brugge : £575k Seweryn Gancarczyk : Metalist Nicholls : £650k Oluwafemi Ajilore : FC Midtjylland : £3.1m Out Thomas Phibel : Bordeaux : £450k Steven Defour : Sevilla : £5.5m Fred : Released Edouard Kabamba : Released Pre-Season Friendlies Standard Liege 4 : Onyewu (69), Lukunku (76), Dembele (81, 89) KVSK 3: Oris (73), Euvrad (84), Janssen (90) VW Hamme 1 : Kestens (75) Standard Liege 4: Mulemo (47), Witsel (48), Fellaini (80, 84) Standard Liege 2 : Lukunku (35), Jovanovic (68) Liege 0 Belgian First Division 4/8/07 Standard Liege 4: Jovanovic (26 pen), Lukunku (41, 87), Walasiak (78) Westerlo 1: Van Hout (7) 11/8/07 Cercle Brugge 1: Iachtchouk (59) Standard Liege 2: Ajilore (14), Jovanovic (70 pen) 18/8/07 Standard Liege 0 AA Gent 2: Olufade (7), Foley (78) 25/8/07 Mouscron 1: Van Gyseghem (45) Standard Liege: Jovanovic (74) | | Pld | Pts | GD | ------------------------------------- 1 | Sint-Truiden | 5 | 11 | 7 | 2 | FC Brussels | 5 | 11 | 4 | 3 | Club Brugge | 4 | 10 | 4 | ------------------------------------- 7 | STANDARD LIEGE | 4 | 7 | 2 | ------------------------------------- 17| Cercle Brugge | 5 | 2 | -3 | 18| Westerlo | 5 | 0 | -10| UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round Leg 1 - 16/8/07 Standard Liege 1: Mbokani (6) MyPa 0 Leg 2 - 30/8/07 MyPa 0 (0) Standard Liege 2 (3): Mbokani (29), Witsel (87) First Round Draw 20/9/07 - Rhyl (A) 4/10/07 - Rhyl (H) Injuries Seweryn Gancarczyk : 1 Month : Torn Hamstring Marcos : 2 Months : Torn Calf Muscle Questions welcome as always
MJGB
How does it feel living the comfort of the Premier League for a less known and frankly 'small time' league elsewhere in Europe?
O\'Hara_fan
It's different not knowing whats going on in the premier league, and your only interaction with premiership teams is more or less in European competitions. But its a good challenge and good to spread the horizon so to speak.
ridley99
What do you think of your new signings Gancarczyk and Ajilore? I know Ajilore is normally looked at by a number of european teams
O\'Hara_fan
Gancarczyk seems decent, Ajilore is possibly, bar Witsel, been our best player. Our defense has been shocking though

O\'Hara_fan
@Luka - A new defence. Definatly. @nerner - I think I have £2.1 million in the bank, so we'll see if I can get a cut price one.

O\'Hara_fan
Around 75k, so selling Defour was good business I think. I think the team respect the decision of the sale.

O\'Hara_fan
Cheers guys. @Luka - The board want the title, and they've given me £3.2 million to spend, I'll have a little look around for a few defenders still, as they seem to be very unreliable. And no off topic discussion in this thread please.

O\'Hara_fan
Axel is happy at the club after what we and I believe to be a good season by himself. Unless there is a lot of cash involved, I will not sell him.

O\'Hara_fan
We've got 5 actually. I asked for a sell on clause, they came back with a lower offer and no sell on clause, so I rejected, and didn't bother asking again. Jovanovic has had an offer for him by Arsenal, but like I'm going to give them one of my players. And Middlesbrough enqured about Toama, gonna be hard to keep some of these players. O\'Hara_fan
I didn't buy anyone in January. But league win is possible, it looks like one where no one want to win it. The top 7 are within 6 points of each other. And thanks Luka for the little 'encouragement' so to speak, I'd like to know your thoughts.
