Asian cup qualifying

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know exactly how the qualifiers for this work.

There are 16 qualifiers 1 host, 3 past winners and 12 others.

In qualifying there were 5 groups of 5 - top two through.

I'm managing nepal and finished in 3rd place but have got into the asian cup anyway even though my record was worse than the other 3rd places in the other groups.

Phillipines also qualified despite not even featuring in the qualifiers.

Looking on the net i saw 2 qualifiers are the winners of the previous 2 afc challenge cups, are these qaulifiers simulating this and if so is it just picked at random or done on world ranking etc.

2008 and 2010 AFC Challenge Cup winner get spots in the main tournament. India secured a berth for 2011 AFC by winning the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup. Whereas Qatar (host), Iraq(2007 Winners), Saudi Arabia(2007 2nd Place) and Korea Republic(2007 3rd place) also get direct entry.

Apart from this all teams are through qualifiers.
