Managers Contract Offer

What's the longest you've had left on your contract before being offered a new one? I only ask as I've got a year to go but my board offered me a new contract.

I rejected this as they wanted my newly promoted side to establish itself in the Division in 2 years. As it stands at the moment my boards objectives are still at "Establish the club in the lower division".

I've had it a year before the end before, but usually it's within the last six months.

A year was the earliest, never heard of anyone getting one before that but guess it may be possible.

Just had this recently actually.

Was offered a new 3 year deal, just 1 season after signing the last 3 year deal.

To be fair, it was as manager as Halesowen for my Dafuge Challenge, and we had just been promoted to the EPL. A few teams were circling around me in the press too.

I wonder if me not signing it will affect me.

I love a bit of negotiating on the contract, the board always seem open to it. I once got a 5 year badboy when I made Spurs champions league winners....I never see the point of asking for a lot of money though...surley this only takes away from the money you can spend on players??

In future games they should place some more importance on earning money...if not its just pointless engotiating your contract?

I don't think so. Once I rejected 5 or 6 extension offers, before deciding to sign an extension 1 week before my contract expired.

1 year is the furthest back for me too but like most responses that is only when I've done really well and it's usually 6 months

I usually get offered with about 6 months to go. But I might have been offered with more time left - I never usually pay too much attention to it.

i like to earn the highest possible then i can laugh in the face of AI manager on half the wage i get it all adds up in career earnings too!

Yeah i understand having a contract, as having a few years certainly helps if your having a rough time in the league etc. but at the moment having a wage doesnt seem to be beneficial...I dont know how this could be got around

In general, contract offers in FM 2008 seem to come much later in 2006 or 2007. It seems to me that in earlier versions, if you were doing well, the board would offer you a contract with 6 months or so to go on the old one. However, in FM 2008, with several teams in various leagues i seem to get down to the final month with the media already speculating that I'm not going to be offered a contract before the renewal arrives. Asking the board for a new contract doesn't seem to speed the process along either. You'll get a message saying they are considering it, but then no action until the end of the season anyways.

As far as wages and length of contract goes, I really don't care what they offer me, and if I want to stay at the club I don't even bother trying to negotiate. In previous versions, my main goal of contract negotiations was to force through club improvements (which the board otherwise love to ignore). I'd be willing to take a pay cut and agree to a long term deal....just please improve my training facilities! Unfortunately, this has been removed in favor of the option to change wage/transfer budgets (which I can already do myself) which is not near as useful (though probably more realistic).

yeah exacttly, i liked the ability to barter for a new stadium etc. when discussing a new contract, that wasnt too unrealistic, shame it was removed.

Id much rather have less wages and more to play with in the transfer market or a better youth team etc.

It always seems to be in the last six months, unless I win somehting and ask them straight after. I like to negotiate and I tend to ask for a five year extension

I remember signing a new 2 year deal with Rangers after a having good sucess. Then a year later I said I wanted a 5 year deal and they offered the contract to me this was at the start of my third season.

I wish our wages were affected like the players' following a promotion or relegation. I'd also like a renegotiation opportunity when our reputation changes from obscure to local to regional to national to continental to world class.

Was the day before it expired? What club was this? They don't seem to be running it very well whoever it was

Rangers. and yes it was it expired 6th June and i requested a new contract on 6th May and they returned saying somthing along the lines of we are looking into that as a possibility. 5th of June i finally got the offer, wasnt happy with it but only had 1 day to accept, maybe why.
