How to turn full screen off on laptop

Ive just got fm installed on my laptop, the resolution is 1280 by 800 pixels and its on vista. It brings up an error message when i try to turn off full screen mode, how exactly do you get around this problem?

1. Right-click on the football manager icon on your desktop and select properties.
   
2. Click the shortcut tab and type the following: -small_screen -windowed" into the target box after what is already in there.
   
3. Then click apply and ok.

Does this always work, as i still can't get FM in windowed mode. Maybe im doing something wrong????

It always works for me, this is the exact text I have in my FM icon target box;

"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\fm.exe" --small_screen --windowed

That is exactly what is in the target box for me and it works. Is that what you have?

That should work. What exactly does the message say?

I just looked at the screenshot and just wondering why are you in preferences as you don't that to turn on windowed mode. The best thing is to exit FM and then change the target and start up FM again. Once it starts it should be in windowed mode immediately then.

That is very strange. Just to be sure you started the game from that shortcut (don't know whether it would make a difference anyway). You did not go into start, programs etc. or load up the game any other way?

I can't understand why that did not work. You seem to have done everything right. I'm sorry but I am afraid I have no idea why that did not work. Very stange. :confused:

Just wondering is the target saved like if you went back in is it still the same as what you changed it to or did it revert back to what it originally was?

Try taking the " and the space before it away and see if that works. I'm running in windowed and it looks the same except for the space and the speech marks. I'm not sure if that will fix it but it's worth a try.

Start in should be left as is. Ignore that bit. Also ignore the (x86) bit (unless of course, you are running Vista 64 bit?)

kk...so i have got rid of the ... _space_" is that all i should do...if so one i've applyed and ok'd it do i have to open fm as normal and should load in windowed or do i open it and then do something wich will make it windowed?

Once you've done that, just start using that shortcut and it should work but I'm not convinced myself

And you Jod, i personally think i was doing it wrong, i was using my original shortcut, not the one i was changing the target of. :o:o:o:o

I not sure that would matter, tbh as I have often loaded FM from another shortcut and it worked but I just found it odd that it did not work for you. You got it working now, though, and that's the main thing.

it sure is, but the short cut for me did make a difference, when i clicked the old shortcut it was in full screen, when i clicked my new i one i did, it was windowed so...sorry to have taken your time for something i should have noticed, but tahnk you Jod and Neji for helping me, and im glad it payed off

If you want windowed mode in 1280x800 without the shortcut method, I believe you have to make the Windows taskbar to autohide... because the window needs that extra space.
