Can football ideas from the past work on FM08?

The likes of Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson used to use?

Such as

1.Get a bunch of fit; organised; committed guys

2.Build around your strengths.

3.Study your opposition; see who/where they play through....stop them.

4.Go all out for the win

Do you think these ideas would work in FM rather than sign players who are technically better?

Why wouldn't it work, I'd just say it is hard to pull of untill you get some experience.

it works. understand the basics of the sliders in the tactic module and you should just pretend you're a manager from there

Also fun to develop old time tactics. I made a version of the old Hungarian MU that works a treat on FM

To be honest most of the time i play to every single one of those principles and i would say i've been reasonably sucessful.

Training is important in FM08. Anyone here NOT experience a bit of a slump after January? Lower your physical training a notch and watch it disappear! Usually.

2.Build around your strengths.

Good wingers? Play wide. Good strikers? Play direct. Great passers of the ball? Play short. You gotta mix it up a bit, admittedly, but yes, this is about right.

3.Study your opposition; see who/where they play through....stop them.

Yes. Man-mark Adebayor, stand-off Chrissy Ronaldo, "always" close down Frank Lampard... and so on.

4.Go all out for the win

Yes. I have a number of "contingency" tactics. A 3-4-3 (almost as effective as the AI's 4-2-4) and the highly defensive 4-5-1.
