players into coaches

I was just wondering if there wan anything in particular that dictates how good of a coach a player will become when he retires or whether it is completely random?

I think it depends on their mental attribute, especially the "influence" attribute. Most players from my save with "influence" over 15, usually become coaches. I have no idea if I'm right about this though

Let's not hijack this thread. The original question was a good one and I'm interested to hear more experiences or even an 'official' word on what contributes to the probability that a player will be come a coach.

I can't remember who said it or when, but ambition, which is a hidden attribute, does affect the chances of a player becoming a coach. Players who play at small clubs instead of big clubs may also have a higher tendency to become coaches.

Age seems to be a contributing factor in my saves too ..

If they are still playing after 35 they almost always move into coaching/management and seem to be better than those who stopped playing earlier in thier careers.

Yeah I'd agree with that.

i think a coach inherits the potential he had as a player.

i've successfully converted some one wanting to be a coach into wanting to be a scout by using player interaction, so that plays a great role in determining if someone will become staff.
