Kain
It's probably not the kind of question you should be asking here.
FrazT
Initially when the patches were made available, they were offered as a direct download from the SI site or via legal torrent sites. No issues with either.
JackInDerBox
I think he means the patches to be fair, if you are not sure what a torrent is I would just go for the direct download buddy!
vlobben
Direct download is your standard way of downloading a file from the internet. It copies a file from an internet server to your computer. Downloading a torrent means that you upload parts of the file you are downloading while you download it. If someone has the first half of a file, and you have the second half of the file, between the two of you you have the complete file. To keep track of this you need a torrent client, which handles all of this behind your back. The advantages of using torrents is that it requires alot less bandwidth on the server that hosts the file. For popular (and large!) files the servers will often limit the download speed to be able to serve more simultanous users. Torrents doesn't have this problem as the more users downloading a file, the more collective upload is available. You need a torrent client to download torrent-files, a popular and lightweight one utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/)
