Why have more than one coach per training category?

Recommended Posts

I think I need some help from the more experienced people on FM 2012 regarding training categories and coaches.

My club now allows me up to 12 coaches. I already have 5 coaches (6 allowed), 2 goalkeeping coaches (1 allowed, but I have a player / GK coach) an Assistant Manager, a First Team coach (1 allowed), a Youth coach (1 allowed) and a Fitness coach (1 allowed).

So I have enough coaches to assign them individually according to their highest speciality to each training category for both the first team and the youth team.

Apart from the first team and youth coaches everyone trains both squads. No coach trains in more than one category, and even those who coach both squads have light training workloads. It doesn't seem to make a difference to their workloads that they are coaching two squads.

So what is the point of more than 10 coaches? Their talent in any category is not additive - only the higher talent coach seems to contribute to the training effectiveness in that category. If the training workload for a coach was greater than "light" I can understand that additional coaches would reduce this workload, leaving them to bring their entire talent to bear in one category. However if they are only working in one category (even with two squads) then their workload is always light - in my case anyhow. Does the workload increase at higher levels or when training is full-time (I am in a part-time, semi-pro club in BSBP)?

I think I just answered my own question, but any help would be much appreciated.

I usually have a lot of players on a high level of tactics training which has led to the coaches workload being average. This is only time I've really worried about having a 2nd coach for that category. So to kinda answer your question, it's not just the amount of players the coach is training, but also the level of training those players are receiving (light, medium, high, intensive).

If you have enough players in your squad(s), you will see that workload can change from light to average, or even heavy. That's why you sometimes need more than 1 coach for each training category - the aim is to keep workload at light.

Now, this is how it works in FM as it is, and it's very unrealistic - but that is a question for another debate. And it has been debated. The amount of coaches needed to keep everything at the very top level, is ridiculous. You don't see any of the top clubs in the real football world employing the amount of coaches needed in FM.

Thanks guys, this was very helpful. I have a lot of players but they are all part-time or youth at the moment, and it's probable that no one category is being trained intensively or with a lot of players, so the workload across the board is light. I will keep an eye on this as I progress.

Thanks again.

Have one coach specialising in each subject field. Then have 1 coach who 'overseas' all of the training areas (Normally my assistant) this allows all the schedules to stay at 'light' and the star ratings remain the same with each coach. Although i don't know whether this affects the training rating at all?
