Neeed to update my graphics card driver

Recommended Posts

Windows 7?

First you do like this: Press the Windows (start) button. In the search box, start to write "device manager". A list will pop up, click on "device manager" there. You get a new list, click on the arrow sign in front of "display adapters". Your graphic card should turn up. Right-click on it, and choose "update driver software". You now use Windows Update to find updated drivers for your card. If that doesn't work:

Go to the website of the manufacturer of the card/graphic chip directly. It will be either Nvidia or AMD, or Intel if you have a onboard graphic chip in your Intel processor. Look for driver update pages, you will most likely be guided well in finding your driver. You just need to know the exact name of your graphic card, and what OS you have, and if it is 32 or 64 bit. (OS= Operating System, ie Windows, MacOS, Linux ...)

Some times, specially if you have a laptop, it may be necessary to instead go to the laptop manufacturer's website and get drivers for your machine there. Some laptops will not accept drivers downloaded directly from AMD or Nvidia, primarily because you need drivers that are slightly modified for your laptop.

When you have downloaded the driver, it's just a matter of double-clicking on it to get the updating process started. But it may be a good idea to completely uninstall your old driver first; I know the card manufacturers advice that you allways do that. This to minimize the chance that leftovers from your older driver interfers with your new driver.
