Too much Work !!!

Recommended Posts

I can't be bothered to play this game anymore, it honestly feels like work now. Also, the engine is still not polished, its good, but way too many silly things that just drive you nuts.

I used to love this game in the years past, maybe I'm getting old but I just can't be bothered.

Not really trying to rant, just wanted to see how everyone else feels and if you went through the same thing. If so, how did you over come it or did you just give up, which I'm thinking of doing

It is amazingly boring to set up a new game. But SI have made some of it less boring. You can import training schedules..but only if you havent deleted old saves. The recent additions of team talks and press conferences are pure drudgery. The game goes by far too quickly for these features to be anything but boring. The match engine and graphics however are better than ever.

SI really need to allow far more optional features in this game.

I buy the game around March in recent years, so not to deal with all the issues. Graphics are the best, agreed, but the decisions or the visual of the decisions the players make on the pitch is really awkward at times. I've had my players kick the ball out for a corner, when there was no one around and they could have easily kicked up the field. This happens almost every game, and I've tried several different tactics and formations. Also, so many clear cut misses, several every match. Its very frustrating, it negates tactics, as getting 20 shots on goal may give you a goal or two.

I'll probably buy again next year, but can't seem to be able to do more then a few seasons on FM12. Its either too boring or just too much clicking. I get mentally exhausted after a couple of games.

You have to figure out what the assistant manager can take care of. I like an AM who can talk to the press almost every time (I think I do 40% of pressers), and can advise me on team talks if I am uncertain what will get the side ready to play a bottom of the table team away from home, when we have been on a good run (because thats when players get overconfident and next thing you know it ends 0-1 or 0-0).

My training and transfers and scouting has already been done, my squad is ready for the next 5 seasons, so all the news items regarding players and transfers get powered through without a second glance.

I love the tactical side of the game, and player development. But at times it does feel like work, just because of the intensity with which you sometimes have to approach things if you want to be confident of the win!

Just take a break until the next iteration comes out, then try the demo... A couple of weeks in-game and you'll find out whether you're ready to go or you need a longer hiatus.

It happened to me around CM4... After having played every version since CM2 for an ungodly (and unhealthy) amount of hours I just felt burned out, I struggled to play past the second season and I wasn't really "feeling" it anymore.

I did try the new FM2005 but I still couldn't keep my level of interest high enough.

Then magically FM2008 (allegedly one of the least popular chapters of the franchise) sucked me back in and I haven't looked back since. Only Skyrim managed to drive me away for a while...

So my advice is to stop trying to enjoy FM if it's become tedious and it feels more like a job than a game. Someday you'll be back ;)

Those are morale/nervousness/complacency issues not tactical issues. Well apart from the Missing Open Chances issues, which are caused by the ME not handling team defending very well and the prevailing erratic wisdom that the more chances created the better.

I think you're right mate, probably trying too hard. Also, this is the only game I play and pretty much have played. Im not really a gamer, just always loved FM, which is why the disappointment of being burned out on it.

Will give it a go in a few weeks or months, and see what happens. Part of the burn out could be that FM12 is the most involving of the series and there is so much to do and keep track of.

I feel that the game is too time consuming at times. It feels daunting when I'm ready to start a new save and start to think about how playing one season probably takes around 20 hours and if I want a long-term career save, I'm looking at a really big time investment. I wish the game had more options such as the ability to simply disable all team talks, opposition instructions, and press releases among other things. I try to speed things up and make the game feel less like work by letting the Assistant do as much as possible and using a simple yet solid plug & play type tactic.

I think the game is way too time consuming now if you want to do everything yourself, but that's just my opinion. Between customizing training schedules for positions and all individual players, team talks tailored to indiviual player personalities, doing all press releases, looking at each opposition player to determine appropriate opposition instructions, and tweaking tactics to best match the opposition and game score, it's all just too tedius and starts to feel like work after awhile.

Yeh, exactly, its my problem with it now as well. If only there was a button that you could have the assman handle all this stuff if you wanted it to. The other issue for me is the match engine, it just pisses me off way too much.

I have no doubt I'll get back to it at some point, but for now, its not enjoyable anymore and in that sense a complete waist of time. When you do get into a good save though, its like crack (Im guessing ;) Easily the most addicting thing that could be had on the pc, even more then porn
