question about youth intakes

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to encourage a balanced youth intake? I have just done over 120 reloads trying to get an intake with a goalkeeper, all failing. I also find I only have 1 left back thats promoted next season, yet cant get one of them either.

Shouldnt my coaches and scouts stop sending me strikers in rediculously high numbers? My last reload gave me 7 strikers who they thought could make a decent premiership player...

Im not looking for world class, just non grey players to make a team. For last 3 seasons been buying goalkeepers and defenders just for youth and I've had enough! All my facilities and staff are top notche, surely that should help?

I know its not a game breaker but just so annoying

I don't think there is.

I got 8 good Goalkeepers come through in 4 years and in the fifth year finally no Goalkeeper, but 3 good Strikers when I was playing one up front . At least you can retrain a Striker to be a Winger or Inside Forward.

The feature was a step in the right decision but it's the one part of the game that really needs more work.

We should be able to influence the youth teams and intake more. Focus on the Offensive/Defensive (i.e. more strikers/wingers/AMs or more defenders/central midfilders) part of the game. A focus on technical or tactical (or balanced) training for our youth players. Local, national or international/global intakes. In other words: We should have a screen, maybe in the boards section of the club screen, where we can interact with the people who are in charge of the youths of the club and our potential future players.

Completely agree.

I love this feature too, but feel more could be done. Rather than your suggestion of specifying where we want to focus on, perhaps we should be given players with little position training, and we should ourselves judge where they should specialise based on their stats. I think this would be a little more true to reality, as players are switched around positions a lot at that age. Commonly those who aren't showing signs of growth (height wise) are moved up-the-park for instance. I think that's also around the time that 15-years-olds are told that they can't all play center forward.

Anyway, it's a great feature, and I really hope SI have some plans for it this year.

I think a feature like that would be good, though it would realistically take years to have any effect. You can't come into a club and makes drastic changes to the 14 and 15 year olds who are at the club. It would be good to be able to gradually "mould" a whole youth setup though.

I think it is a little unrealistic to expect 15 year olds to not have much position training, they have been playing 11 a side for 4 years after all. It would be good if younger player were very easy to convert to other positions though.
