Blair McCabe
Hi all. My mate has asked me to build him a new PC tower but gave me no idea what he wants and how much to spend. Don't want to go over the top cause really it is just for FM but he does want it to be "quick". What i have come up with so far costs £375 which includes CPU - AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 3.60GHz Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M LX AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard RAM - 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache Tower - Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black Power Supply - OcUK Crusade 450W Dual-Rail High Efficiency '80 Plus' Power Supply Graphics Card - OcUK GeForce GT 520 2048MB GDDR3 Low Profile PCI-Express Graphics Card Optical Drive - Samsung SH-S222BB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM What are your thoughts? If anyone can come up with anything better and cheaper I would appreciate it :-)

Looks okay, but are you sure that a 450W PSU will be okay?
manunited4life123
Yeah the power supply seems far too low. Even if it supplies enough power now, it doesn't leave much room for future expansion.
Q.P.R
For what it is worth .. i wouldnt touch a CPU - AMD Bulldozer if you payed me .. they are cheap for a very good reason ... sure it might be ok for just playing fm .. but fast it is not ...far from it
trekman
I agree with the others regarding the psu. I'd personally go for at least 650watts.
x42bn6
450W is more than enough for a GT 520. It has a TDP of 300W I believe.
Scab
The FX-4100 is nothing special... If it were down to me I'd probably choose the Core i3 2120 in this price segment with one of the cheaper P67 or Z68 mobos. Asus has a good line-up for those. Given free reign I'd go for the Core i5 2500(k), but that's a pretty steep step-up in price compared to what you appear to have in mind. RAM is dirt cheap at the moment. Throw 2x4GB in there. It's hard to say much about the graphics card if FM is the only game he plays. If people with that card say it's fine I guess it's fine? The PSU is fine... People over-estimate how much juice their parts need. If anything, see if you can find a single-rail design.
