Tactical Changes

Recommended Posts

From my vast experiences as a footballer & coach url. The tactical model represented her in the game is very restrictive and leads the manager bolted into one style of play. Which maybe for the match engine is fine, but for developing tactical strategies is very limited.

Football tactics can be defined 3 parts,

1. When you have the ball.

2. When the opposition has the ball.

3. When the ball is in dispute.

The first 2 parts representing 95% of the game, whilst the 5% is about how you get regain possession or lose it. The functions of Part 1, including mentality, ball movement, player runs, pitch areas used are totally different as opposed too Part 2. When you don't have possession your team's mentality shifts to the extreme in the opposition direction. Player roles are changed in according to the position they are playing, whilst defenders are asked more to man mark as opposed to zonal, midfielders increases in closing down and forwards dropping deeper as opposed to standing on the last defenders.

My Point -

Team Instructions should have 2 sets of instructions - In Possession / Not in Possession

This would enable you to have two sets of philosophies -

In Possession - Would include basic philosophy, Very Fluid, Fluid etc / Strategy / Creative F / Crossing / Roaming / Width / Time Wasting / Focus Passing / Marking / Def Line / Tempo / Passing Style

Not In Possession - Counter, Defensive, Contain / Closing Down / Tackling / Marking / Def Line / Width / Counter Att / Play Offside / Roaming / Passing Style

Individual instructions would also be affected by which how players react under each Part. You may have 1 or more players play higher, ready for a counter, with the difference you can nominate which players this will affect.

When you don't have possession your tactics / instructions could be set has narrow and deep, but when in possession you can play a wide possession game.

to be continued....
