Cant offer Messi a new contract

After three seasons with Porto i took over at Barcelona and now, at the beginning of my second season there, i need to offer messi a new contract. Trouble is his current contract is 275k p/w (!) and he's asking for 375 p/w (!!!!) whereas my board will only allow me to offer 240k p/w (bargain).

I set the wage offer to 240k and 'lock' and he flat out refuses rather than ask for more loyalty bonus, app fee etc. Its not surprising to see him refuse a wage reduction what's surprising is that the club is loaded, out wage bill is 1.85m p/w and the wage budget is 3.2m p/w so there is plenty to spare.

Is there anything i can do?

I think if you wait until around 8 months or so before his contract runs out, his demands will lower and you should be able to get him to sign for the same money.

playing as other teams, i always see the news article that says Messi rejects contract offer. he does accept nearer the end of his contract though. his loyalty towards Barcelona finally gets the better of his desire for more money.

Yeah, leave it as late as possible before other clubs can offer him a contract. Negotiate with him in early December, you'll have a better chance.

He'll sign in the end, I was tracking him on my Man Utd game, waiting for his contract to expire... and he signed a new contract the day before he got released, taking a wage cut from £275k per week to £180k per week.

Sell him.

Terminate his contract. That kind of behaviour shouldn't be tolerated.
