Throw-in takers - Why not specific positions rather than players?

Recommended Posts

I don't have any particularly long-throwers in my squad, so I am more than happy for my DL to take all from the left and my DR to take all from the right, similar to most teams IRL. Why is there no option for this?

It seems I have to either pick a specific list of players from both sides or leave the list blank and let the game decide. The problems with these options are:

1. If my first choice DR is set to take them from the right but also plays at DC occasionally, I don't want him taking throw-ins while he is playing at DC, as he will be out of position if I lose the ball. If my first choice DL is set to take them from the left but also occasionally fills in at DR, I don't want him still taking them from the left as he also will be out of position.

2. If I leave the list blank, it seems to occasionally send one of my DCs up to take a throw-in, presumably because he has the best long throw attribute. Again, he is out of position and then he only does a short throw, completely defeating the object of picking him for his long throw ability.

So what are my options? Go in and select specific throw in takers before every game, or hope for the best. Doing it every game would get annoying, so I'm just leaving it to fate but would love it if SI could allow us to set specific positions to take on these duties if we manage any team other than Stoke.

Unfortunately and rightly I suppose, you can't set up your set pieces to position specific. Set Pieces are normally taken by Set Piece Specialists.

Set Pieces should in my opinion be split into Attacking and Defensive. So you could select your GK to take Defensive FKs and your main free-kick taker to take attacking FKs. The only problem with Throw-ins is the player selected to take long throws which only occur in the attacking third, will take the throw-ins in your half aswell, so I would like throw-ins to be split into normal and long throws.
