The Ultimate Challenge - From Level 14 to the Premier League

I have taken DustShadow's update to Golden eagles mammoth database, and edited it further to make it fully playable, so now I'm ready to try this!

I've added my own club in my own (real) local league which I've placed at Level 14, and intend to take them as far as I can, as long as the save remains stable and at a playable speed. It's not particularly massive, so it should!

Competitions that we are in this season:

-Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur Football League Division 1

-Rhodes Cup (L&C League Cup)

-Stockport District FA Senior Cup (local district cup - our reserves are also in this, and it is possible for us to play them!)

-Cheshire County FA Amateur Cup (The big one - County Cup)

As we progress, I have set regional divisions so we should go:

-Level 13 - L&C Premier

-Level 11/12 - Cheshire League

-Level 9/10 - North West Counties

-Level 7/8 - Northern Premier League

-Level 6 - Conference North

And cups:

-Level 9-11 - FA Vase

-Level 1-10 - FA Cup

-Level 5-8 - FA Trophy

-All Levels - We will remain in Cheshire Amateur Cup and Stockport Senior Cup forever, but once we reach Level 10, I will enter reserve teams for both competitions, and in the SDFA Senior Cup, the existing reserve team in it will essentially become our 3rds, if we become far too good for it at any point, I'll just play the kids and anyone who is really sh*t!)

Club info:

-Stockport Town FC

-Ground: Ashbrook Stadium, Reddish, Stockport (basically a pitch with a barrier around it at the moment, will do until Level 11 anyway)

-Home Kit: White Shirts, Blue Shorts & Socks

-Away Kit: Yellow Shirts, Green Shorts, Yellow Socks

-GK Kit: Red Shirt, Black Shorts & Socks

Wish me luck!

Pre-Season 2011

Friendly: Stockport Town 1-1 Stockport Town Reserves (Abbott/Akwuegbu)

Little action against the ressies until the end, the firsts scored with 78 minutes on the clock, but some average defending allowed big Chris Akwuegbu to smash the reserves level with two minutes left to play

Friendly: Stockport Town 1-3 Bedians (Eaton)

Not too bad a result against a team from the league above us, they had a particularly good forward who put us 2-0 down, but we pulled one back before half time. To no avail though, as they made it 3-1 early in the second half and clinched the win.

Friendly: Stockport Town 3-0 Cheadle Hulme Villa (Prior, Lawton, Vaughan)

Another home friendly against a side from the league above, but this time we hammered them! Michael Prior, Ciaran Lawton and Jim Vaughan scored as we brushed aside the Premier Division promotion hopefuls.

Friendly: Stoconians Reserves 1-5 Stockport Town (Jones, B Molyneux, Coleman, OG, Woods)

A much easier friendly against a side in the lower reaches of our league, and we took them to the cleaners, taking the lead in the very first minute. They did level after 20 minutes, but we went in 2-1 up before extending the lead in the second half and finishing up 5-1 winners. They had a player sent off late on for serious foul play.

Friendly: Hillgate 2-3 Stockport Town (Jones, Shillito, Prior)

A good win to finish a great pre-season. Hillgate are another couple of divisions below Stocs Reserves, but offered much more of a threat, although we still headed in 2-0 up after a hard fought first half. We must have thought we had it won though, as the home team hit us hard in the second half, pulling it back to 2-2, before Michael Prior headed the winner for Town with 7 minutes to go

August 2011

Heaton Mersey 1-1 Stockport Town (Brown)

A tough start for us away at Heaton Mersey, but we got a positive result. We fell behind in the 32nd minute to a great passing move, eventually smashed home from 30 yards by Dominic Wyeth. As the second half went on, the home side were reduced to nine men in a matter of seconds in a strange incident. Firstly, Kit Howe who had already been booked, committed a regulation foul on the line of the penalty area, which the referee not only judged to be a foul, but also serious foul play and a straight red card. Following that, another Heaton Mersey player on a yellow card, Ethan Jones, protested his way into another one, and caused his side to lose two players in one go. To make the incident even stranger, the ref awarded us a free kick rather than a penalty, even though everyone knows that the line is part of the penalty area, and so we should have had a spot kick. Not that it mattered, defender Bobby Brown converted a goalmouth scramble minutes later to give us a well deserved point.

Stockport Town 2-2 Irlam Steel (Mitchell, Plummer)

Another strange game, but this time we were left disappointed by what we got for it. First, Phil Mitchell's long inswinging free kick evaded everyone and landed in the back of the net to give us the lead but then our left back Andrew Cochrane somehow managed to flick a defensive headed clearance into his own net to make it 1-1. We retook the lead when a brilliant turn of pace from left winger Jim Pearce saw him find space for a cross, which Tony Plummer diverted into the net. We took the lead into half time but were undone again at the end when a cross from wide was met by a brilliant header from Irlam forward Derek Ware, which gave our keeper Lee Briggs no chance. Defender Darren Greenhouse was later sent off for a second yellow card, which we could really have done without!

Cup Draw: We have been given a bye in the Cheshire County FA Amateur Cup 1st Round

Cup Draw: We have been drawn away at Gorse Hill Athletic of a lower division in the Rhodes Cup 1st Round

If you've never seen Eastenders then you wouldn't get it, I don't watch it regularly but I've seen enough to recognise the name, not the best model for younger players...

No, I make a point of switching the TV over when Eastenders comes on, so I can't say I've ever heard of him!

This lad is a 16 year old centre midfielder, so could possibly be considering a name change!

September 2011

Stockport Town 2-0 Abacus Media (Dykes, Akwuegbu)

It took until the first week of September, but the first win did finally come, Darrell Dykes hitting us into the lead before half time, and on the other side of the break, big Chris Akwuegbu made the points safe with a 30 yard piledriver!

Fletcher Moss 2-5 Stockport Town (Prior, Mitchell (2, 1 pen), Greenhouse, Jones)

Our first win was closely followed by our first away win over at Mersey Bank. We took the lead inside the first minute after great thinking from Daniel Jones and a brilliantly timed run from Mike Prior left him with an open goal. Fletcher Moss hit back, but then good thinking from Prior again earned us a penalty after he was hauled down inside the area after excellently chasing down a clearance. Again Fletcher Moss hit back, but we almost immediately went back infront again, when central defender Darren Greenhouse converted a left footed half volley following a poorly defended corner. We made the points safe when Phil Mitchell scored his second set piece of the game with a brilliant free kick, and there was still time for Daniel Jones to make it five when his header looped over their keeper and into the net.

Cup Draw: We have been drawn at home to Eagle in the Stockport District FA Senior Cup 1st Round

Rhodes Cup 1st Round: Gorse Hill Athletic 2-1 Stockport Town (Coleman)

The first defeat of the season, but at least it didn't harm our title chances as it was a league cup game. After a goalless first half, the home side who play one division below us, took the lead when a long range shot took two big deflections and left their player with a tap in. We soon got back into the game though when Tommy Coleman headed home Daniel Jones' cross for his first goal for the club. It all went wrong with ten minutes to play at Turn Moss though, when Ben Evans was dispossessed in his own penalty area, and then took down the striker who was through on goal. He was sent off by referee Peter Tupman, but we were immediately reduced to nine when Phil Mitchell managed to argue his way into a second yellow card too! The penalty was converted, and with two men less, we never really stood a chance as we bowed out of the cup.

Stockport Town 4-0 Alkrington Dynamos (Coleman (2), Redhead, Eaton)

After a disappointing performance in the Rhodes Cup, we went into this league game really wanting to win, and we did so in style! We took a two goal lead inside 20 minutes, both goals being scored within two minutes of each other when firstly, Tommy Coleman took advantage of some suspect defending to hit home and then Andrew Redhead was given a free header from a Daniel Jones corner to double the lead. It was 3-0 before half time when a great run and piece of skill from Coleman was too much for the Dynamos defence and keeper, and subsitute Gary Eaton made it four with a great header late on from another Jones set piece.

Cup Draw: We have been drawn away at Witton Albion Reserves in the Cheshire County FA Amateur Cup 2nd Round

October 2011

Stoconians 1-2 Stockport Town (Coleman, Mitchell)

This was a slightly strange game that we absolutely dominated from start to finish, but with ten minutes left, found ourselves 1-0 down. Stocs scored from a soft looking free kick in the first half, and as many chances as we had, we were unable to get back in it until Tommy Coleman looped a header over their keeper and into the net with ten minutes to play. At that point only one team was going to win it, and the goal came with two minutes to play when Phil Mitchell bundled home a goalmouth scramble. However it's done, it's still three more points!

Stockport Senior Cup 1st Round: Stockport Town 2-1 Eagle (Jones, Akwuegbu)

A fairly regulation home win against a side from the league below us in the L&C. Daniel Jones struck us into the lead early on before Christian Akwuegbu sent a screamer into the Eagle net in the second half. The Offerton based side did pull a goal back late on, but we did enough to hold on, and earned our place in the last 16.

Cup Draw: We have been drawn to play Cheadle Hulme FC of the East Cheshire League away in Round 2 of the Stockport District FA Senior Cup

Stockport Town 0-3 Govan Athletic

The league leaders Govan Athletic came to Stockport and took home a comfortable 3-0 win. We were never really in the game, and went down to three second half goals, all of which were easily preventable

Cheshire FA Amateur Cup 2nd Round: Witton Albion Reserves 0-6 Stockport Town (Jones, Pearce, Coleman (2), Prior, Lawton)

Well, hands up who saw that one coming! Admittedly, Witton were poor and had a lot of youngsters in their team, but we were so good that they couldn't get the ball off us at times! 3-0 up at half time, I thought we'd take our foot off the pedal a little but we didn't and ended up romping to a six goal victory!

Cup Draw: We have been drawn to face Newton (Wirral) of the West Cheshire League away in Round 3 of the Cheshire Amateur Cup

Stockport Town 1-1 Santos (Jones)

We weren't as good today as we were in the cup game, but we were still impressive and should have won against the side in second place in the league. Rochdale based side Santos took the lead in the first half through a long range wonder goal from midfielder Callum Giddings, but Daniel Jones smashed home Jim Pearce's cross to make it 1-1, and that was how it stayed despite Town having the better of the chances in the second half.

November 2011

Stockport Senior Cup 2nd Round: Cheadle Hulme 1-2 Stockport Town (Mitchell, Jones)

A very slow start in this district cup tie, in which keeper Lee Briggs made a string of top quality saves, but then Town went down the other end and made it 1-0, thanks to a brilliant Phil Mitchell free kick. It didn't take long for Cheadle Hulme to get back into the game, Stephen Tyson smashing past Briggs after some great build up work, but Daniel Jones scored a brilliant right footed curler in the second half to put Town through to the quarter finals.

Cup Draw: We have been drawn away at Manchester League First division side Woodley Sports Reserves in the quarter final of the Stockport Senior Cup

Newton 0-2 Stockport Town (Coleman, Akwuegbu)

We got off to a great start in Hyde when a brilliant cross by skipper Barrie Shillito was turned home by striker Tommy Coleman. Newton had few chances, but the points were sealed when big midfielder Christian Akwuegbu scored his second piledriver from long range of the season, giving the keeper no chance.

Burnage Metro 2-3 Stockport Town (Stancliffe, Brown, Prior)

This was a vital win in the last league game before our big outing in the County Cup next week. New striker Bob Stancliffe put us in the lead before being floored by a horror tackle by Metro's Dean Berry for which he was sent off. Stancliffe had to go off, but was lucky to avoid sustaining any sort of long term injury. Joe Wharton equalised for Burnage before half time, but they weren't to go in level, as Daniel Jones' corner was headed home by Bobby Brown to restore the lead on the stroke of half time. Substitute Mike Prior scored a big goal early in the second half, when he converted Tony Plummer's cross to make it 3-1. Wharton then immediately scored his second for Burnage to reduce the deficit, but Town were able to shut up shop for the rest of the game and claim the points.

Cheshire Amateur Cup 3rd Round: Newton (Wirral) 1-3 Stockport Town (Stancliffe, Coleman, Greenhouse)

This was the second trip this month to a team called Newton, but this one was right over the far side of the County at Greasby on the Wirral. We got off to a fabulous start, allowing the Level 11 side as little possession as possible and got our reward in the 22nd minute when Bob Stancliffe's shot bounced off the crossbar and into the net. We went into half time at 1-0 and then couldn't believe our luck when Tommy Coleman had a shot two minutes into the second half which also rattled the woodwork before nestling in the onion bag! 2-0 up away from home in a massive game against a side three levels above us! A poorly defended inswinging free kick allowed Josh Wheeler a free header to set up a nervous last fifteen for us, but not only did we hold out, we made it three when Phil Mitchell's deep free kick in stoppage time was met by a bullet header from Darren Greenhouse. 3-1, goodnight, Quarter Finals of the County Cup in our first season here we come!

Cup Draw: We have been drawn at home to West Cheshire League side West Kirby from the Wirral in the Quarter Finals of the Cheshire County FA Amateur Cup

In December, we play three of the bottom five, so should be using this month to really start to chase down the top two, especially as they play each other at the end of the month, so we should be able to at least narrow the gap a little, before we play both cup quarter finals in January

December 2011:

Stockport Town 2-0 Parrswood Celtic (Stancliffe, Pearce)

A regulation home win over bottom side Parrswood. Striker Bob Stancliffe put us into the lead early on, and then the points were sealed by winger Jim Pearce with a good finish late on.

Newton Heath 4-5 Stockport Town (Pearce (4), Coleman)

Wow! An absolutely incredible game, and I'm not sure I can decide whether we deserved to win it or not, but we did! We raced into the lead after only two minutes, Barrie Shillito's cross converted by Jim Pearce. An almost identical goal doubled the lead on the half hour mark, this time Daniel Jones' cross was headed home by Pearce. Just before half time, the referee spotted a foul on Tommy Coleman in the area, allowing Pearce to step up and complete a first half hattrick from the penalty spot and at that time there was certainly no sign of things to come. Soon after half time, the home side scored with a header from a corner to make it 3-1, but Tommy Coleman then took advantage of a poor backpass to round the keeper and roll the ball into the net for 4-1. With twenty minutes to play though, disaster struck with a horror ten minutes! First, defender Bobby Brown turned a cross into his own net for 4-2, and then Town seemed to forget how to defend, and Heath won everything and you could hardly begrudge them the two goals they got to pull it back to 4-4 with ten to play. At that point, it looked like only they would win it, but Town heads refused to drop and a deep cross by Bob Stancliffe in stoppage time was met by the head of Jim Pearce for his fourth goal of the game, and a 5-4 away win in incredible circumstances!

Stockport Town 3-1 Milton (Pearce, Stancliffe, Prior)

Thankfully, we needed none of the drama of last week to record our seventh straight victory in all competitions. Early on it looked like we might though, as we struggled to score and then striker Connor Biggins put Milton in the lead against the run of play. It was that man Pearce again though who levelled, again with his head, from Daniel Jones' cross. Town went ahead before half time when a long range effort from Christian Akwuegbu smashed off the bar, and a distinctly offside looking Bob Stancliffe tucked the ball home, but no whistle was heard from the referee and to the fury of Milton the goal was allowed to stand. Another officiating error allowed us to make it 3-1 in the second half when Akwuegbu controlled the ball with his arm before playing in sub Michael Prior to score, but the man in the middle didn't see it and we held out for the win.
