Installing without patches?

To cut a long story short, patches on my current laptop slow my game down quite a bit. I've now uninstalled FM12. Is there anyway to install it again, using steam obviously, WITHOUT automatically downloading the patches?

It happened with FM11 as well, it's been a long saga involving a lot of posts on here about it. Basically on FM11 and now FM12 as soon as the patches are downloaded the 2D commentary slows down and becomes laggy. The rest of the game is fine, it's just the commentary and the match speed that slows down. I can't find a solution at all! Having tried it on much older laptops seems to work fine, so it looks like theres something hiding on this particular laptop that it doesn't like!

Is there a way to play the game without having the patches automatically downloaded?

The game is automatically patched to the latest version when you install, there's no way to prevent that I'm afraid, though as Neil says patches can't slow the game down so you need to be looking for another cause for that.

I just don't get it at all. It's like theres something engrained in this laptop that just doesn't like the patches! I've literally tried everything. I was thinking about getting a Mac previously and now I'm convinced! It works and runs smoothly on Mac right? Otherwise thats two FM titles in a row I havn't been able to play properly

Yes...Matt is right. I didnt have Windows Service Pack 1 on my laptop and until Matt mentioned it, I have downloaded all the critical updates and Service Pack 1 and updated drivers. It now seems to be working a treat. Thank you "Mr Marketing Bloke"!

Well - most obvious standout on there is your graphics card driver date - I'm reasonably confident they'll have a more up to date driver than that. Now - I'm no tech guru - but if you want to investigate it with some expert help, I'd suggest SEGA Customer Services would give you some assistance.

One other thing that I've seen help people - although more with non-match-engine speed - is to update Java - which takes seconds and is more straightforward - and may be worth a go.

As far as I can see Windows is up to date (although you can always try a windows update) and DirectX too but worth just double-checking.

Ok, awesome, ta for checking that out Matt! If tried to go through Intels site and Packard Bells for driver updates, but theres either nothing compatible or the ones I do download have no effect. I'll get on to Sega's customer services to see what they think!

I'll be honest I'm not the greatest with computer spiel. At the moment i've got Intel HD Graphics I think and I'm not entirely sure what update I'm looking for. Do I have to download an intel driver in that case? I see alot of people mentioning all this radion malarky etc lol.

I am no expert but I believe you want an Intel driver for that card. You can potentially review options using the tool here...
