Database options for long-term journeyman career?

I posted the following in GD, but I suppose this forum is more-apt.

I only realised tonight (when none of my scouts could find any players from Germany or France) that in my haste to start my first FM12 career I carelessly only loaded a small database with no other players (so about 5,000 players in total). Clearly this means the hard work I'd done in rising from the depths of the Italian lower leagues is worthless now and I'll need to start afresh.

So what would be a good database setting for a long-term journeyman save?

I have no players loaded from any nations/regions at all (so no Africans/North Americans/Asians), so whilst making leagues playable could help I guess with some areas (South America, the rest of Europe), that'll slow my game down to a crawl and still won't give me any Africans.

So what database options should I look to load for a new save to give me a decent worldwide journeyman career (and how many players loaded in total should I be looking at?)
