ism-scfc
August 2011 Hayes & Yeading United 4-0 Stockport County Stockport County got life outside of the football league after 106 years to the worst possible start, as they were hammered 4-0 at part timers Hayes & Yeading United. The scoring was opened after 20 minutes when Pierre Joseph-Dubois headed home, and when Dubois was fouled by Andy Halls, defender Tom Cadmore stepped up to convert the penalty for 2-0. Any chance County had of a winning start to the season well and truly disappeared on 76 minutes when Dubois' cross was headed home by Mark Bentley for 3-0 and when a reckless lunge from Danny O'Donnell brought down Bentley, Cadmore scored his second penalty for 4-0. Stockport County 2-2 Mansfield Town (Paton, O'Donnell) Stockport made three changes from the side that suffered an embarrassing defeat in Woking on the opening day, Jon Nolan, Cameron Darkwah and Danny Rowe coming in for Antonio German, Andy Halls and Nick Chadwick. The scoring was opened after just 21 minutes, loanee from Aberdeen Michael Paton scoring County's first goal outside of the league for over a century. It didn't last though, as Louis Briscoe broke clear of County's defence, beating both the offside trap and keeper Matt Glennon to equalise. However the game changed again when County retook the lead before half time, Danny O'Donnell with a bullet header to meet Paton's corner, giving keeper Marriott no chance. Again the Stags came back though, when Matt Glennon parried away Briscoe's header, Paul Bolland was on hand to smash home from the edge of the penalty area. Southport 0-4 Stockport County (Sheridan, Paton (2), Elliott) It took until the third game of the season, but County have recorded their first non-league win in some style. Midfielder Sam Sheridan got them on their way, heading home an excellent corner from young winger Darkwah. Darkwah was again involved in setting up the second, squaring to Michael Paton to score. Darkwah was again involved on 37 minutes as he again got the better of young full back Luke Rowe, Rowe resulting to clipping his heels for the second time and finding himself down the tunnel. The resulting free kick from Darkwah was met by a fantastic header from Paton which flew into the top corner! On the stroke of half-time, Tom Elliott made the most of some sub-standard defending to score his first goal for the club and make it 4-0. In the second half, it was referee Lee Metcalfe who took centre stage, first dismissing Port's Simon Grand for a flailing arm that caught Tom Elliott, a harsh decision and then went even harsher, reducing the home side to eight men late on, Jon Brown given a second yellow card for dissent. Stockport County 1-0 Luton Town (Chadwick) Luton have had a tough start to the season, and it didn't get any better at Edgeley Park, where they were played off the park by a rampaging Stockport side. Luton keeper Kevin Pilkington kept everything that he could at bay, but the pressure eventually told in the 82nd minute when Andy Halls' through ball was converted by substitute Nick Chadwick to earn County victory in the Hatters' derby Forest Green Rovers 0-0 Stockport County County weren't quite as dominant as they were last week against Luton, having to rely on Glennon saves a couple of times, but still had most of the game at The New Lawn, Sam Sheridan came closest, forcing a good save out of keeper Bittner, but County just didn't really test the Rovers stopper enough and had to settle for a point. Stockport County 2-0 Kidderminster Harriers (Elliott, McConville) County were never really threatened by the Harriers as they move to within a point of the Conference play off places, despite such a terrible start. It was Tom Elliott who opened the scoring, taking advantage of a non-existant defence to run onto Andy Halls' pass and make it 1-0 after just 4 minutes. The second goal had to wait until the second half, and came after a moment of magic from Cameron Darkwah, the teenager sticking the ball through his marker's legs before turning and squaring to McConville who could hardly miss. Player of the Month: The find of the Season so far has been Cameron Darkwah who has blistering pace and some quite brilliant skills down both flanks, and also has the ability to play up top. The way the 18 year old single handedly demolished Southport was quite a sight and I know the left back who he got sent off after 37 minutes won't be looking forward to meeting him again!
