What happened to best defender of the year?

I'm playing FM08 as Man City (patch 8.0.2). I remember in FM07, at the end of every season there would be an award for "best defender of hte year," and you could see the two runner ups. But I haven't seen that award any more. All there is now is best young player, best player, player's player, footballer of the year, etc etc. Basically every award is given to an attacker. Where are the awards for defenders?

I can't remember a defender award in the BPL. Are you sure you don't mean European Defender of the Year, because it's still there but you probably won't hear about it unless one of your players is involved.

You only tend to hear about these if your player is involved - ie. my goalkeeper just came third, so I was informed via message. Never hear about it otherwise.

This is one of the effects of separating news that only affects your team/team's league with wider news. It's probably the only new feature for FM08 that I think should be ditched altogether.
