Ipswich Staying Up
Hi all, Just about to get a new laptop today... can anyone tell me whether there is a noticeable difference between using a 5400rpm hard disk and a 7200rpm hard disk with FM?? Thanks in advance, D
x42bn6
It will be noticeable, especially for lots of small files, but note that hard disk performance is dependent on lots of things, not just how fast the thing spins. Also note that 5,400 rpm drives consume less power and give off less heat (in general) than 7,200 rpm drives, which make them good candidates for laptops. T-Bag
You probably wont notice too much difference in FM really. I've got an SSD in my desktop and it's awesome, but FM wise it's not actually much different as it doesn't load much from the hard drive. Even saving games isn't massively quicker. Ipswich Staying Up
Thanks all! Ended up getting a standard hard drive as I was able to get the new beast straight away! Gone for a 2.4ghz Quad Core, 8gb Ram and AMD 1gb graphics Mac Book pro... The game is running like a dream although my marriage is at risk!!
nine_iron
good choice for laptops on a budget, if you are not intending to store lots on it there is no reason why you cannot get a 256GB SSD later on
Slawbawn
SSDs are the way forward. I've got my OS and all my high resource using softare installed on an SSD. So much nicer than using a regular drive!
Ipswich Staying Up
To be fair i pretty much got it to play FM and not alot else!!
nine_iron
Then you do not really need anything speedy. I do love SSDs though, I have three of the damn things and my desktop is all SSD now, not a spindle in sight! Heck since I started using steam and had a decent internet I havent even had a CD/DVD drive for years now!
