The Worst Team in Ireland.

Starting a new career game as Im falling out of love with fm. My last attempt.

Taking over Salthill in Ireland. They are the lowest rep playable team and have an awful squad. Due to some sillyness on my part, we're 23 games into the season when I join but its up to me to turn the worst team in Ireland in a great side (if I stick around).

League Results

Waterford 1-6 Salthill - With Jamil Adam gone on u21 duty, Martin Reilly took his 1st team chance with a hattrick.

Cherry Orchard 1-5 Salthill - Adams returns from the u21's and bags himself a hattrick. Reilly unlucky to be dropped.

Salthill 3-1 Finn Harps - 1-1 after 5 minutes but we dispatched another of our rivals comfortably, despite taking to injury time to get our 3rd.

RoundUp

22 games in and our 60 points gives us an 18 point margin over UCD our only realistic threat as Monaghan and Finn Harps now sit 23 points behind us. We've scored a quite pleasing 76 times (over 3 a game) and promotion while not guaranteed is looking a formality.

League Results

Athlone Town 1-3 Salthill - yet another Jamil Adam hattrick, his 5th time scoring at least 3 goals in a match this season.

Salthill 7-1 Wexford - Goals shared among 6 players, brace for Faherty

Salthill 4-1 Monaghan - Easy win against promotion chasers

Rockmount 0-4 Salthill - Easy win against strugglers.

Salthill 1-1 Shelbourne - Tough game, went behind early, hit back before half time.

Longford 0-2 Salthill - 2 goals from our cb John Fitzgerald

Roundup

We now have 76 points from our 28 games. If we win our next 20 (its a 48 games season) we could finish the season with a staggering 136 points, but I'd happily take 130.

Our closest rivals are still Monaghan who sit 27 points being us. 20 games to go, I think we could wrap the league up in 8 games or so if things go well.

Adam leads the goal chart with 30, Paul Byrne still remains 2nd on 20, Vinny Faherty joint 4th with 14.

We dominate the assists as well with midfielder Conor O'Grady and striker Vinny Faherty on 15. Jamil Adam is 3rd behind our other two with 13.

Adam leads the way in the average rating with all the top 5 coming from Salthill.

Adam also leads the man of the match charts with 8.

Cup Draw

We face Premier League leaders Derry City away in the Senior Challenge Cup 3rd round (August 26th), 5 days after the trip to face Bohemians in the League Cup Semi's. I may have to sacrifice a run in the SCC to try and save energy for the promotion push.

Transfer News

We have loaned Marc Hughes to Derry as cover, just to stop him whinging. He'll be lucky to play at all there but at least its not my ear he'll be in.

Senior Challenge Cup Rd 3 - Derry City 2-1 Saltill - Our b team almost causes a huge shock against the runaway premier league leaders, falling to an 83rd minute goal. We bow out, heads held high.

Irish First Division - Salthill 3-0 Cherry Orchard - We bounce back in the league easily dispatching Cherry Orchard. Paul Byrnes brace ending his goal drought.

Round Up

Mixed feelings about this month. We pretty much have the league won but I was sickened to lose. Was hoping on doing an invincibles on it. the other negative is I feel my first team could possibly have beaten Derry as they were there for the taking and I think we may have wasted a competition. the plus side is of course the cup final and we'll go into it with nothing to fear after putting up a great showing against both Derry and Boh's. Sligo are one of 3 pro teams in the country though and they will be another huge challenge.

Irish First Division - Finn Harps 2-3 Salthill - the title battle saw us take a rapid 2-0 lead, Harps hit back before the break and possibly should have being level at half time. We hit a 3rd from P Byrne to pretty much kill the game before a late consolation made the game look close.

Irish First Division - salthill 5-0 Athlone - Adam bagging all 5 for the second time and his 7th time scoring a hattrick or better. We now lead by 35 points with 39 to play for.

Irish First Division - Wexford 1-4 Salthill - After Finn Harps draw, 3 points would of secured us the title and we wasted no time in doing that. Going 3-0 up before easing to 4-1. Paul Byrnes hitting a hattrick and our 120th goal of the season to kill the league with 12 games still left.

Round Up

Well what can I say. The greatest month in Salthills history and probably the best month I've ever had on Football Manager. League is over, Cup is won, we can relax and enjoy the rest of the season. Plus now I can switch to commentary only and get this massive season over.

On a slightly negative note half my first team are now injured with Crossan, Davy Byrne and Connor O'Grady all out for a couple of weeks. Paul Byrne is fine though.

Another negative is there is no European football for winning the cup which is slightly disappointing.

Results

Irish First Division - Salthill 0-0 Longford - it looked like our team had celebrated too much. Lucky point

Irish First Division - Avondale 1-1 Salthill - Bad draw against a team we should be beating. Team thinking they are on holiday already. Wont happen again.

Irish First Division - Salthill 5-1 Douglas Hall - Tough talking before kick off got the team back motivated. Good win against the leagues weakest side.

Irish First Division - Waterford 1-4 Salthill - Another Adam hattrick. Thats 8.

Irish First Division - Salthill 3-0 UCD - Brace for Adam this time.

Irish First Division - Salthill 2-0 Cherry Orchard - Another brace for Adam saw us ease past the strugglers to make it 9 goals in 5 games.

Irish First Division - Salthill 2-1 Finn Harps - Lucky win from 1 down.

Irish First Division - Athlone 3-2 Salthill - We were 2 nil up after 20 minutes and fell apart. disgusted.

Irish First Division - Salthill 5-1 Wexford - Great win to wrap things up considering Adam had being called away with the Irish u21's.

Roundup

I had to give Jamil Adam a bumper contract to stick around but luckily we got his minimum release clause up to 550k which would be hugely helpful was someone to come in for him. Easy couple of months to wind down and although we had a couple of dodgy performance I'm quite happy.

Irish First Division

Great season and despite our prediction of 9th I told the board I would win the league and luckily we delivered. 2 defeats in 48 league games is quite pleasing and only 1 during the period that mattered. Quite a long season having to play 48 games and I had players resting and exhausted at the half way point but we got there.

Irish Premier League

Sligo Rovers retained Irelands top title in the end finishing with a 12 point cushion over Bohemians, St Pats and Shamrock Rovers who all finished on 62 points. Shamrock missing out on european football on goal difference.

Galway United were relegated bringing a smug smile to my face as now ourselves and Mervue sit as the top Galway teams and the ever so arrogant ones sit in a lower Division crippled by years of mismanagement.

Senior Challenge Cup

A doube for Sligo who saw of Bray Wanderers in the final with ease. Their only really challenge along the way a 4-3 extra time win over St Pats in the quater finals.

League Cup

Our greatest achievement and the game that denied Sligo the treble. It took 2 penalty shootouts to claim it but it was against two of Irelands top 3.

------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: As much as I hate to, the prize money bug is still in my game in Ireland top division so I may have to use fmrte to fix this. Sligo picking up 60k less than 2nd place is just unfair and a major SI oversight. If not the game becomes completely unplayable. with bottom of the league making more than the division champions

Jamil Adam is quality, and I know a lot of people who've had him in various sides and said much the same.

Absolute goal machine at low levels. Still if I get 450k+ offer I'd snap someones hand off as it would be huge for the club.

Busy, busy, busy

With a seasonal goal of staying in the division I set about reshaping the team. Armed with a transfter kitty of £0 but a wage budget of £5k (up £3k) I set about reshaping the team.

In came 10 players, all who will be first team or thereabouts, the strongest being ex Sheffield Wednesday midfielder James O'Connor plus two current u21 internationals in Graham Burke and Shane McEleney plus ex U21 international keeper Saul Deeney. Out of the club went 12 players including five of last years starting squad, the most notable of which being last years holding midfield star Davy Byrne and centre back Alan McDermott.

Pre Season Results

I let the assistant handle friendlies as I was busy shopping for pre season and results were not too bad. Best result was a hammering of fellow expected struggler Bray, while the worst was recieving a hammering from Shamrock Rovers. Still against 3 premier teams we'd managed to win, draw and lose and I had a feeling 3 points from every 4 games would keep us well safe with only 1 team guaranteed relegated.

Salthill 1-1 Bohemians

Salthill 0-0 Galway United

Salthill 4-0 Bray Wanderers

Salthill 1-4 Shamrock Rovers

Irish Premier League - Derry City 3-0 Salthill - Derry dominated us from the off and went ahead through a peno before doubling there lead on half time. We played much better 2nd half and probably deserved a goal but a stupid mistake saw us concede another peno. A harsh lesson that we cant afford to make errors in the top division

Irish Premier League - Salthill 4-0 Limerick FC - Super performance in our first home game. Record attendance of 738 turned up to see it. Thats over double last seasons average.

Irish Premier League - Bohemians 1-3 Salthill - Brilliant result against one of Irelands top teams. Adam bagging a hattrick to show hes ready for the challenge of top flight footie.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 2-2 Sligo Rovers - Another brilliant display against the best team in the country. We went ahead, were pegged back, went behind and hit back for a draw.

Irish Premier League - Drogheda 0-3 Salthill - Fantastic away win against a team I expect us to be close to in the bottom 5.

Round Up

What a brilliant opening to the season. Lessons were learned from our opening day hammering and we've bounced back brilliantly finishing the month in 4th spot and already points clear of relegation. have to hold my hand up and say the Derry result was probably my fault for playing down our chances and sucking the confidence out of our team. We lost new signing Graham Burke and Midfielder Davy McGill to injury.

League Cup Draw

We were drawn at home to either Waterford United or Athone Town of the Irish First Division

Irish Premier League - Salthill 5-1 Dundalk - We tore into them and went 5-0 up before halftime thanks to an Adam hattrick. Poor second half but the game was dead so I wasnt too annoyed.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 1-1 Shamrock Rovers - We led for most the match but still a great result against the league leaders.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 1-1 Cork City - Went ahead through a penalty early in 2nd half but got pegged back just a minute later.

Irish Premier League - St Pats 2-2 Salthill - Sat top of the bunch when we met and despite us giving a good showing we were 2-0 down after 50 minutes but goals from Faherty and Byrne fired us back to level terms and a super draw.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 0-1 Mervue United - Home game against our cross city and relegation rivals and our worst performance of the season. No win in 5 games now.

Irish League Cup Rd2 - Salthill 4-0 Waterford - Cup stroll and at a much needed time to boost confidence. Hopefully it should settle us down for the league.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 1-1 Derry - We scored early and dominated the game, but Derry hit us on the break at the death to take our winless run to 6 in the league.

Irish Premier League - Limerick 3-5 Salthill - Came back from 2-0 down to draw at half time, Ian Ryan headed us in front on 65 before a Limerick red card allowed us to ease to 3 points.

Senior Challenge Cup - Salthill 4-1 Athlone - Another easy cup win and into the last 16 of the SCC.

Round Up

A mixed bag, while I'm not disgusted with the two months I am slightly disappointed. We should have won the Shamrock, Cork and Derry games. And losing the derby sickened me to the very core of my soul.

Wit our 21 points we still sit in a hugely impressive 4th spot in the league and while 10 points behind Shamrock Rovers we are 10 ahead of the relegation playoff (which is currently occupied by reigning double winners Sligo Rovers) and 15 ahead of bottom of the table Limerick.

Top of the Table

Shamrock -pl 13 - pts 31

Dundalk -pl 13 - pts 25

St Patricks-pl 13 - pts 25

Salthill Dev-pl 13 - pts 21

We have drawn rivals Galway United away in the last 8 of the League Cup. A game I expect us to win.

Only 2 games in June and than mid season break but July was hectic.

Results

Irish Premier League - Salthill 4-0 Bohemians - Brilliant dismantling of Boh's. Our form is back.

Irish League Cup QFn - Galway United 0-3 Salthill - 2 goals on his return for Graham Burke

Irish Premier League - Sligo Rovers 0-1 Salthill - Tough win against the struggling champions

Irish Premier League - Salthill 6-1 Bray Wanderers - Easy win and fires us to 2nd

Irish Premier League - Salthill 1-1 Drogheda - Game we dominated but failed to convert our chanes.

Irish Premier League - Shamrock Rovers 2-2 Salthill - 2-2 at half time and we had our cb sent off 1 minute into 2nd half. We hung on though

Irish Premier League - Dundalk 2-0 Shelbourne - Outplayed from minute 1. Disgraceful performance and a missed penalty

Irish Premier League - Salthill 3-1 St Pats - Great win over our rivals for 2nd that fires us back above them, albeit with 2 games more played than our opponents.

Irish Premier League - Cork City 1-4 Salthill - Tougher game than it looked. 2 late goals flatterred us.

Irish Premier League - Mervue 1-2 Salthill - Tough battle against our local rivals that we just deserved.

Shock, Horror, Club Crisis

During the game with Mervue Jamil Adam was taken off injured, I got out of the match and he's out for 5-6 months with a torn calf muscle. Going to be hard to hold our season together now.

Cup Semi's

We travel to St Pats in the League Cup Semi's and host Monaghan 3 days later in the Senior Challenge Cup.

Round Up

Much better 2 months and we did brilliantly in a hectic July that saw us play 8 games between the 3rd and 26th.

Table is too complicated to explain so..

thx lads. Hope we dont falter with out Jamil.

Results

Irish Premier League - Derry City 0-2 salthill - Life without Adam gets off to a great start. Graham Burke delivering on his central role.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 2-1 Limerick - A battling win against the relegation strugglers.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 0-0 Sligo Rvrs - We were on top in this one before an O'Connor red card meant we had to shut up shop and settle for a point.

League Cup SemiFinal - St Pats 0-1 Salthill - Nip and tuck game decided by cb Ian Ryan in the 89th minute.

S-Challenge Cup Lst16- Salthill 3-0 Monaghan Utd - 2-0 at half time and game over. We scored our 3rd late on to compound a simple victory

Irish Premier League - Drogheda 1-1 Salthill - Went 1 up with an early peno but were pegged back inside 10 minutes. Plenty of chances and I have to say the first game where we missed Adam.

Cup Drawsl

We will play Derry City in the final as we bid to retain our league cup. Draw for the last 8 of the SCC is on 2nd of next month.

RoundUp

Wehad a good spell in the league but tbh we missed Jamil in the two tight games. We played well but struggled to put teams away and the 2 draws have completely killed any hopes of threatening Shamrock Rovers title charge. We trail them by 6 points and have played a game more. Ourselves and Dundalk seem to be battling for 2nd with St Pats falling away so its looking good for at least a top 3 finish.

Results

Irish Premier League - Bohemians 2-0 Salthill - Our lack of a goal scorer really came to haunt us. A game we should of won easily, but 2 late goals did for us.

Irish Premier League - Bray Wanderers 0-3 Salthill - An early peno and red card gave us the upper hand within 5 minutes and thankfully we took the opportunity for our first league win in 4 attempts.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 3-1 Dundalk - Biggest League Game of the campaign. We took a 5 point advantage over the 3rd place side going in and thanks to a Faherty brace we were able to inflict a 3rd consecutive defeat on Dundalk and open an 8 point gap.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 2-0 Cork City - We went 2-0 up early. A new found confidence in Faherty after ending his 11 hour drought last time out leading the line. Cruised to the points

Senior Challenge Q/F - Salthill 2-2 Bluebell Utd - We made hard work of our non league opposition and they deserved their 90th minute equaliser and replay.

League Cup Final - Salthill vs Derry City

45 - the first 45 saw little in the way of goalmouth action and only a couple of half chances. Not alot really so all I could do was encourage the team.

47 - Seemed to work as a minute after the restart brilliant work from Burke set up Paul Byrne for the opener - 1-0 Salthill

54 - Derry's Kevin Deery hits back in style to level up. 1-1.

64 - Great graft from sub Martin Reilly tees up midfieler Ronan Finn. 2-1 Salthill

80 - Centre Back Shane McEleney limps off through injury.

91 - In injury time up steps midfielder Paul Keegan to fire home what surely is the match winner. 3-1 Salthill.

92 - The game is not without a sting in the tail as Deery's second ensures a tense finish. 3-2 Salthill

94 - Salthill are the League Cup Champions after beating Derry City 3-2 at the Aviva.

Round Up

Back to back League Cup Triumphs for the underdogs. Great performance with 2 of our strongest players on the injury list.

In the Premier League we now trail the leaders by 8 points with both having 8 games to go. We will also face them twice, so 2 wins could really put the cat amongst the pigeons. Could have done without the cup replay to open October as our next game is at home to Shamrock.

In other news, silly season has started in the Premiership with Roberto Mancini getting the boot from City after back to back Champions League victories and a 100% start to the season. Louis Van Gaal left Chelsea to take over at the Etihad stadium.

Senior Cup QF Replay - Bluebell 1-2 Salthill - 2 goals up through Byrne before said player missed a peno and Bluebell broke from the rebound and scored. From than on we hung on but we got the job done

Irish Premier League - Salthill 2-1 Shamrock Rovers - Another big game and german defender Trapp put us 1 up before again we conceded almost straight away. Defender McEleney walked for a second booking but we never gave in and were rewarded at the death when Paul Byrne blew the title race wide open.

Irish Premier League - St Pats Athletic 5-1 Salthill - A crushing display and our best performance in my 3 years as we tore Pats apart roaring to a 5-0 lead before easing off a little. Shamrock beat Sligo 3-0 to maintain their 5 point lead.

Irish Premier League - Salthill - Mervue Utd - A tough win against our rivals who led till 70 minute mark despite having a man sent off after 15. More importantly St Pats got a draw at Shamrock reducing the gap to 3 points as we enter the league split. We'll get another crack at Shamrock, can we make it count?

Irish Premier League - Salthill vs Shamrock Rovers

2 - yellow card for our own Ronan Finn

10 - Rovers hit the front through Gary Twigg who was clearly offside. 1-0 Shamrock Rovers

14 - Disaster - Red Card for Maurice Trapp. Goal down and a man down. Both poor decisions.

37 - Game seems to be slipping away as rovers are unlucky not to be 2 up. twigg hits the post.

45 - Angry words in the dressing room

74 - chance after chance goes begging as we boss the 2nd half. time for desperate measures

93 - In Fergie time we break down the left, Graham Burke crosses in and sub Martin Reilly fires home. 1-1 and the final whistle.

Irish Premier League - Salthill 1-1 Shamrock Rovers - Great result considering we were nearly shafted by the ref. Great spirit and still in the hunt for the title. We have also qualified for Europe.

Irish Premier League - Dundalk 1-3 Salthill - A comfy win after going behind in the 1st minute. Shamrock win against Pats to stay 3 points ahead.

Senior Cup SemiFinal - Galway Utd 3-2 Salthill - Worryingly another red card and we let a 2-1 lead slip to bow out in the semi's. Losing to 1st division opposition and fierce rivals hurts.

Irish Premier League - Bohemians 1-3 Salthill - A huge win at Boh's sees us level at the top of the table with Shamrock. Derry City doing us a massive favour.

With 2 games to go we are right in the hunt. Top 2 shows:

1st Shamrock - pl 36, pts 74, gd 47

2nd Salthill - pl 36, pts 74, gd 44

Irish Premier League - Salthill 3-0 St Pats Ath - Our lads were fired up and done exactly what was asked. Unfortunately Shamrock won too so it was going to the last day as follows.

1st Shamrock - pl 37, pts 77, gd 49

2nd Salthill - pl 37, pts 77, gd 47

So here it was the final day of the season and we travelled to Derry while Shamrock were at home to Dundalk

Last Match of the Season

3 - Early booking for Paul Byrne

13- Ronan Finn breaks through and hits the post. Unlucky Salthill

14- Yellow card for McEleney

15- NEWS - Dundalk lead at Shamrock Rovers, Quigley after 9 minutes. Advantage Salthill

29- NEWS - Twigg equalises for Shamrock. Advantage Shamrock

42- Stewart Greacen heads home from a corner to dent our hopes - 1-0 Derry

HT Derry 1-0 Salthill, Shamrock 1-1 Dundalk

46- Purcell looks to have killed our dream. 2-0 Derry

49- Penalty Salthill - Dispatched by Keegan. 2-1 Derry, life in the title battle yet!!!

70- Its over now. A McLaughlin own goal puts Shamrock 2-1 up and only a miracle will deny them the title.

FT Derry 2-1 Salthill, Shamrock 2-1 Dundalk.

Salthill Season Roundup

Irish Premier League

What a brilliant season yet I'm left feeling gutted. We did absolutely brilliantly to finish where we did but the fact we went so close only to falter is sickening me. Had we had Adam I think we'd of shaded it. Still its incredible for our first season but I get a feeling next season will be harder as teams won't underestimate us and we could find the going tougher.

Senior Challenge Cup

A great run to the semi's but disaster in losing to a First Division team. Shocking even. A chance passed up but as another First Division Team awaited in the Final (Finn Harps)

League Cup

Again a brilliant feat to retain it. Delighted as we played brilliantly throughout.

So Shamrock displace Sligo as Irelands top team. Pipping us on the last day of the season. No doubt we're the team of the season with Sligo the underachievers. Mervue United say goodbye as Shelbourne make their return to Ireland top flight.

Shocks aplenty as we end up with an all First Division Final in Irelands Major Cup. Full credit to Harps who accounted for Sharmrock and St Pats along the way.

February - Pre-Season.

We entered the season with a smaller but much better quality squad and we tried to fit in an extra 2 weeks conditioning training to keep us fitter for the long haul. Pre-Season went really well, our only defeat coming to Scotlands Hibernian who beat us 4-0 in a money spinning friendly and a sign of how tough European football was going to be. Every other game was a good win we even dished out a couple of hammerings.

March - The Big KickOff

IPD - Dundalk 0-1 Salthill - Sub Burke gets our season off on the right note with a late winner.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 Cork - Comfy win despite going behind in our first home game.

IPD - Shelbourne 0-5 Salthill - Title warning is sent. Faherty hattrick and a brace from MC Finn.

IPD - Salthill 6-0 Bray Wanderers - Adams first goal since injury put us ahead before Finn was red carded in the 20th min. Another for Adam and a Keegan freekick ended the contest. Adam finishing the rout with 4. Not bad for a team who played 70 minutes with only 10 players.

IPD - Sligo 0-3 Salthill - Comfy away win keeps our 100% start to the season moving.

We rounded off an impressive month on top of the pile with a 100% start, albeit matched by Shamrock Rovers I have a good feeling so far.

April - Results

IPD - Salthill 3-0 Drogheda Utd - Faherty brace as we ease to 6 out of 6.

IPD - Shamrock 0-2 Salthill - Goals for Trapp and Adam as we beat the champs and end their 100% record.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 St Pats - Eased to this one again. 3-0 up after half an hour.

IPD - Bohemians 0-3 Salthill - Weird game, went 1 up and had Finn sent off (his second red of the season), scored twice more and than Boh's had 2 men sent off to finish 10v9.

2 months in and 9 wins from 9 games saw us off to a phenomenal start. 6 points in front of Shamrock albeit with a game more played. Delighted with a super start.

Results

IPD - Salthill 3-0 Derry - Easy win but yeat another red card. Time to get tough I think.

IPD - Salthill 4-0 Limerick - Brace from Adam in yet another straight forward win.

ILC - Derry City 0-4 Salthill - Adam hattrick starts our league cup defence in super style.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 Dundalk - Despite dominating we trailed from the 5th to 65th minute before Dundalk finally cracked. Adam equalising and a Faherty brace sealing the points.

IPD - Cork City 0-1 Salthill - We must have hit the post 8 times before Faherty popped up in the 78th minute to bag the winner.

ISC - Salthill 0-0 Shelbourne - We wasted a ton of chances to put Shels to bed and now have to go through a replay.

ISC - Shelbourne 1-3 Salthill - Part 2 of the Shelbourne triple header, and another of our toughest games. Another red card and I smell a 2 week fine coming for Ger o'Brien.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 Shelbourne - No its not a mistype we played Shels the 25th, 28th and 30th of May and I'm sick of them tbh. Repeat of the last game except without the red card.

ILC - Salthill 3-1 shamrock Rovers - Comfy as we make the semi's of what I expect to be called the Salthill Cup next season.

IPD - Drogheda 2-3 Salthill - Another win that was more comfortable than suggested and we entered the June break with 45 points from 15 games.

Round Up

A hugely successful couple of months on all fronts and at the June break we lead the table by 6 points from Shamrock Rovers. Interestingly St. Pats need a miracle to stay up in a Division where anything can happen. When we return in mid July our European adventure begins and we are still in all Irish competitions.

We face the tough prospect of St. Pats in the Senior Challenge Cup, but have a cosiderably easier tie away to Athlone in the League Cup Semi-Finals.

July 2014 - European Adventure

ELQ2- Grasshopper Zurich 0-0 Salthill - A backs to the wall effort but the greatest result in Salthills history. Take a bow lads. Amazing.

greatestresultinsalthil.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

After our European heroics we watched the draw for the 3rd round and we have all the motivation one could need when our reward if we could topple Grasshopper was La Liga side Espanyol, quickly this was followed by even more good news.

moneypreciousmoney.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

IPD - Derry City 1-0 Salthill - Our poorest performance of the year. Possibly the team were still coming down from Europe.

ELQ2- Salthill 1-4 Grasshopper - For 39 minutes we bossed the game. than a stupid Ger O'Brien mistake saw him red carded and Grasshopper hit the front through a penalty. Amazingly we leveled through Adam for a chance at half time. Unfortuantely we couldn't cope 2nd half being a man down and Orlando Engelaar put us to the sword.

brien.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

IPD - Limerick 1-6 Salthill - Asante hattrick and a brace from Adam as we bounce back in style.

IPD - St. Pats 1-1 Salthill - Adam getting us out of jail after a poor 1st half.

August

IPD - Dundalk 2-0 Salthill - An embarrasment. 2 red cards, 9 bookings and our keeper threw in an og for good measure. Entire team is lucky they aren't fined.

IPD - Salthill 4-0 Bohemians - Faherty with the hattrick as again we bounced back despite being without 4 players.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 Cork City - Brace from Asante as we record back to back wins for the first time in awhile.

IPD - Shelbourne 3-1 Salthill - 3-0 down at half time. Another embarrasing performance. Our away form is gone down the toilet. Lucky for us Shamrock are stuttering too.

ILC - Salthill 2-0 Athlone - Goals from Faherty and Iorfa put us in our 3rd league cup final in 3 seasons.

ISC - St Pats 0-2 Salthill - We went 2-0 up after 85 min before a late consolation for Pats.

IPD - Sligo Rovers 1-4 Salthill - 1 down at half time, stern words and Vinny Faherty again to the rescue, his early brace putting us 2-1 up before we ran away with it.

September

IPD - Salthill 6-0 Drogheda - Asante hattrick as we hit 3 goals in each half. We've started to get our swagger back after 4 straight wins.

IPD - Shamrock Rovers 3-3 Salthill - 3 times we trailed and 3 times we hit back. Adam may have won it at the death but for the post, but the draw keeps our 6 point lead at the top.

IPD - Salthill 3-0 Bray Wanderers - Adam hattrick as Bray are easily dispatched.

IPD - Salthill 2-0 St Pats Ath. - Another red card. We have red card fever this season. 2 week fine for O'Connor. Won this one undeservedly with goals in the 87th and 90th minute. Character.

IPD - Salthill 2-2 Shamrock Rovers - We went into what is pretty much a title decider with 5 first teamers out, 3 suspended including Adam and our 2 strongest MC's out injured, Two exhaused midfielders started with only 5 players on the bench. A dream start when we won a 1st minute penalty which Finn stuck away. An og from keeper Young levelled the tie on 29. Vinnie Faherty limped off on the hour. A daft pass by our lb Papastathopoulos that beat our keeper let Twigg to top in and save us another og embarrasment for Shamrock to lead 2-1 on 70 minutes but yet again we refused to accept our beating. Brilliant work by Keegan in the 90th minute forcing Brennan to turn into his own net for a late equaliser maintaining our 9 point lead at the top.

ISC - Salthill 6-0 UCD - Last 8 Senior Cup tie and an exhausted Salthill team took the pitch. Still 2 goals from Adam (who finished with 4) and one from Molnar ended the tie by half time as we marched into the semi-finals..

We had to draft in a couple of players on pay as you play contracts just to get to the end of the month. Kurtis Byrne, Robbie Gibbons and Kevin O'Connor all joining.

Irish League Cup Final - Dundalk vs Salthill.

With suspensions, injuries and tiredness all ravaging our squad it was tough to field a team that didn't include new pay as you play signings but needs must and eventually we got 16 players who were able to stand.

13 - First blood Salthill, Asante fires us ahead from Adam's pass. 1-0 Salthill.

24 - Injury crisis worsens, Maurice Trapp is taken off.

27 - Josh Magennis doubles our lead from another Adam assist 2-0 Salthill

47 - A crazy Dundalk og ends the tie. 3-0 Salthill

56 - Finn blazes a penalty over the bar.

60 - Adam adds a 4th in style. 4-0 Salthill

FT - Dundalk 0-4 Salthill - Salthill win their 3rd consecutive Irish League Cup.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 Sligo Rovers - A comfortable win fires us 11 points clear at the top.

Round Up

Three brilliant months and we now sit a huge 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League, are in the semi's of the Senior Cup, retained the League Cup and aquitted ourselves well in Europe (I still haven't forgiven O'Brien fully though... what might have bein and all that.....) Goals are being shared but Jamil is still the leagues and clubs top scorer but everyone whose come in has done well. We were looking a bit thin towards the end but the 3 arrivals on pay as you play deals have fleshed out the squad a bit. Hopefully we can celebrate a treble at seasons end but at this moment I'd take adding the league to our League Cup.

Such a shame to get something in Switzerland and see it crashing down.

tbh I feel we'd of won with 11 v 11 and how I didn't terminate O'Briens contract I'll never know. My missus still thinks I'm crazy cause of the screaming at the screen.

IPD - Bohemians 1-0 Salthill - Keith Buckley with a fluke goal after over hitting his cross sends us to defeat number 4

IPD - Bray Wanderers 0-1 Salthill - A 94th minute Adam goal stops Shamrock from closing the gap to 6 points. We lead by 8 with 21 to play for.

IPD - Salthill 0-1 Derry City - Weakened by injury and suspension we still dominated but went behind to a peno after a Trapp mistake. Gap is now 7 points with 6 to play after Cork held Shamrock.

Much needed 10 days break as our thin and ravaged squad are out on its feet. Shamrock have reeled in 4 points of our 11 gap in 3 games and it should easily have being 8 and a four point gap. We now need 12 points from our last 6 games to guarantee the title.

In other news giants St Pats have being relegated from the Irish Premier League with 6 games to play, Dundalks late equaliser sending them down.

IPD - Salthill 4-1 Limerick - Fully refreshed we rammed Pat Scully's pre-match bull right down his throat. Taking a 3 goal lead in 12 minutes. 10 point lead with games to play.

IPD - Shamrock 1-1 Salthill - Was going to write a report on this one but there was 2 shots, a goal each and that was it. 3 points from glory.

IPD - Salthill 2-1 Derry - A brace from cb Shane McEleney (his first goals of the season) wins Salthill the league title.

IPD - Salthill 1-0 Cork City - 3 subs at half time and 2 players go off injured in 2nd half putting us down to 9 men.

IPD - Dundalk 3-1 Salthill - We were already dreaming of the Cup final and got well beaten.

Senior Cup Final - Salthill vs Galway United

The treble decider for us and Galways 2nd successive senior cup final despite being outside the top division.

6min - Booking for McCrory

12 - Booking for Asante

40 - Key midfielder Phillip Lowry leaves the field injured.

86 - Callum Reynolds is sent off for our opposition, Shane Williams is booked protesting

90+2- Maurice Trapp rises highest from a free kick heading Salthill to the treble.

A game of little action and in the end we probably didn't even deserve it but thanks to some dodgy refereeing Salthill claim the treble and PoD is King of the hill.

Salthill Devon FC

What can I say the perfect season. Brilliant in every competition and we deserved the lot. We won the league comfortably in the end and only the Senior Cup proved tricky but we got that too. Europe was a baptism of fire but we'll keep trying.

Jamil Adam topped the appearances, assists and goals chart with 42 goals and 22 assists in 47 apps in all competitions. Going to be hard to top this and in the back of my mind Im feeling maybe I've outgrown Irish football. We'll see what comes my way in the future.

Irish Premier League.

Shocks all around as little known Salthill claim the league title as part of a historical treble. History at the other end as St Pats are shockinly relegated with 18 points from 38 encounters. What awaits these giants of Irish Football.

Against an impressive arroy of bigger clubs we finished pre season p11, w3, d4, l4. Including NUIG it was 4-4-4 which I'd of taken at the start. Highlight obviously beating Rangers.

March - The Big Kick Off

IPD - Drogheda 0-1 Salthill - Lowry opens our season with a scarcely deserved 3 points.

IPD - Salthill 5-0 Bohemians - Crushing win and title warning well and truly handed out. Adam with a hattrick

IPD - Salthill 6-0 Shamrock Rovers - Four from Adam one from Shiels and an og as we humiliate our rivals. Can we be stopped?

IPD - Bray Wanderers 1-1 Salthill - A game in which the woodwork twice denied us victory and maybe a kick in the bum to avoid overconfidence

IPD - Salthill 5-2 Limerick - Braces for Adam and Kurtis Byrne in a game that was tighter than the score suggests.

RoundUP

A super month but despite our 13 points we trailled Cork City by 2 at the end of month one. A new look City winning 5 from 5 and showing tons of promise.

April 2015

IPD - Shelbourne 0-3 Salthill - New striker Liam Boyce finally opens his account with a brace and Iorfa's header as we begin April as we finished March.

IPD - Salthill 1-1 Dundalk - Early bath for our holding mid Alpan. We took an 83rd minute lead through a controversial peno but Dundalk got a deserved equaliser in the 2nd minute of injury time.

ILC - Salthill 3-0 Limerick - Goals from Shiels, Finn and Trapp in a cup canter.

IPD - Salthill 3-1 Monaghan - Goals for Adam Boyce and Keegan in a comfy win.

IPD - Cork City 1-3 Salthill - Our hosts took a 1 point advantage at the top into this game and for 50 minutes it looked as though they'd maintain it but two quick goals from Bynre and Magennis inside 5 minutes put us on the verge and sub Magennis second ended the contest on 70 minutes. there was still time for another stupid sending off this time McCrory to keep the game remotely interesting and Cork got their consolation on the 90 minute mark.

May 2015

IPD - Sligo 2-2 Salthill - A game we twice led but Sligo easily deserved their point.

IPD - Salthill 1-0 Derry City - Adam with the winner in 1st half injury time. Scarcely deserved, but comfort in the fact we can win ugly. A sign of real champions.

ILC - Salthill 6-0 Avondale - 3 from Magennis, 2 from Adam and 1 from Boyce as we cruise into the next round

IPD - Salthill 3-0 Drogheda - 2 more from Adam and 1 for Magennis. Good performance. Paul keegan did miss a peno which is disappointing.

ISC - St. Pats 1-4 Salthill - Adam brace in easy win.

Daniel o'Reilly signs after being spotted by scouts than this happens. Than out of the blue comes an interesting offer.... tbh I really don't know what to do. Never thought I'd get an offer of this stature and even though their a champ side its quite a big offer and money I could only dream of at Salthill. Going to have to think this over..........

OD makes the move

P OD has joined West Bromwich Albion on a 5 year deal increasing his wage from £300 per week to a heft £17k.

West Brom

Sad and all as I was to part from Devon West Brom were a huge step up and a job I never expected to be offered. Relegated from the premiership I inherited a premier level squad to compete in the championship. The board offered me £11m to reach the playoffs but when I said I was going to win the championship it was increased to £13m. Time to do damage.

Uefa Co-Ef: ---

Club Rep: 2.5* -

Club Value: £65m

Competition: English Championship

Media Prediction: 6th (of 24)

Season Ticket Sales: 21,144

English League Rankings

Premier League: 1st - 4.5*

Championship: 22nd - 3*

National Team Ranking: England - 5th

Squad

In goal we had the quite good Frank Fielding with decent cover in Johan Dalin.

In defence we had plenty of players good enough for the prem never mind championship. The star of the defence and team was easily ex Man City defender Dedryk Boyata, left back Lionel Carole was easily another of the strongest.

The midfield tended to revolve around Graham Dorrans again a player whose ability is superior to the championship average but we had an overabundance of wingers who were quite strong but needed to be moved on as I play 433.

Up top again the quality was good. Kermit Erasmum, Shane Long and Emmanuel Adebayor looked like an impressive front 3 while cover was limited.

Results

Champ - West Brom 5-0 Norwich - Opening day demolition of Norwich gets us off to a flyer. Braces for new signing Nangis and RB Boyata plus Adebayor's strike put us top after Rd.1

LgCup - West Brom 4-0 Plymouth - 2 goals for Beric as we coast through.

Champ - Bristol City 0-5 West Brom - nangis opener an Ade hattrick and superb Dorrans freekick destroys City. Sub Long gets our first red of the season.

Champ - West Brom 1-1 Wigan - 1 down at half time and things got worse with a red card for Carole on the hour. Rescued in the 89th minute through a Dorrans penalty

Champ - Sheffield United 0-5 West Brom - 2 from Adebayor as we hand out our 3rd 5 goal thrashing in 4 league games.

LgCup - Scunthorpe 1-5 West Brom - Brace for Erasmus in simple win.

Champ - West Brom 3-1 Colchester - Goals were shared as we eased to 3-0 lead before a late consolation for Colchester.

Round Up

A brilliant start to the season saw us sit top of the championship on goal difference from a Christian Eriksson inspired Birmingham. Our massive goal difference being the seperator. We sat on +17, Birmingham on +6. Leicester and Ipswich sat 3rd and 4th. Adebayor who was in the reserves when I arrived leads the goal charts with 7 in 5 league appearances and 2 in the League Cup from 2 sub appearances.

I suggest trying to get your thread names changed with an admin ;)

true haha. although I intend to go back there and win the champs league to round off a glorious career. My manager turned 74 this year haha so he should be about 1645 when I achieve it.

Been to Salthill a few times. Lovely place. Did not know they have a football team.

Lovely spot alright. Used to live there while at college. The team only recently joined the Irish league with the re-structuring. Before that they were essentially just one of the better sunday league sides.

September

Champ - Millwall 1-8 West Brom - That'll teach you to keep your mouth shut Mr. Thompson. Nangis hattrick and a brace for Long.

Champ - Southampton 0-3 West Brom - Dorrans and Boyata sink our promotion rivals before Nangis puts a flattering sheen on the result.

Note: Shane Long will miss 2 weeks through injury.

LgCup - West Brom 2-0 Leicester City - 2 goals from Ade, a red card for Lopes and an injury to Marcao in an incident packed first half. Thankfully incident free 2nd period as we ease into the last 16.

Champ - West Brom 3-1 Brighton - Comfy win, with the only blemish Schmichael coming out of the goal and stupidly running past the ball to allow their consolation.

Champ - West Brom 1-1 QPR - A poor 1st half showing saw us deservedly trail but a superb second saw Ade equalise and we were unlucky not to win.

Round Up

At the end of September ourselves and Birmingham were still inseperable at the top of the championship, only our goal difference being the difference. The gap had now opened to 6 points to 3rd placed Leicester with Colchester sitting in 4th a further point behind. I also picked up my 2nd consecutive manager of the month award for my hard work.

October 2015

Champ - MK Dons 1-0 West Brom - A tight first half finished goalless but the Dons took the lead early in the 2nd. Things got tougher when after making 3 subs Carole limped off. Despite our strongest efforts our 10 men couldn't find a way through.

Champ - Derby 0-1 West Brom - Ade put us ahead in the 80th minute of a tight game and it was backs to the wall for the final 10 minutes, Boyata having to head off the line as Derby probably deserved an equaliser.

Champ - West Brom 3-0 Leicester - 2 from Ade and 1 from Long as we took a huge step back to form.

Champ - Portsmouth 0-3 West Brom - An og and an Ade finish decided a tight contest at Pompey before Long added a 3rd late on.

LgCup - Aston Villa 0-1 West Brom - A brilliant win, Ciaran Clarks 92nd minute og putting us through to the quarter finals.

League Cup Last 8 Draw

West Brom v Sunderland, Arsenal v Chelsea, Man City v Tottenham, Reading v Wolves

So the 4 of the big guns will be down to 2 and if we can sneak by Sunderland it'd be nice to draw the winner of Reading and Wolves.

Champ - West Brom 3-0 Burnley - 2 for Ade and one for Marcao as 3rd place are easily dispatched.

Round Up

Despite our brilliant start to the season, Birmingham lead us by 3 points at the end of October. They capatilised on our defeat to MK Dons and matched us stride for stride since. The ever widening gap to the playoff is 10 points to 3rd place Colchester and 12 to Burnley. On to November and at the end of the month a huge trip to Birmingham.
