Trick to getting contract accepted?

Haven't noticed this working so well in previous versions but playing as Blyth Spartans in the Blue Square Premier I have noticed that i always seem to get a player to agree to a contract and it usually only takes 1 day. This seems to work best when other clubs put in offers as well.

First get a contract offer accepted by the player - say £350pw

Then when another club offers a contract immediately amend your offer and add around 10-20% say £400

many times in past 3 seasons player has come back straight away accepting my new offer

Might not sound so weird but these were really good L2 CA L1 PA players and the other clubs bidding for them were much higher rep than me.

Seems to consistently bag me the player.
