pliversedge22
I was hoping someone could help me out! I have a gem of a striker who is French/Senegalese but has been in England long enough to gain nationality, yet "sees no benefit". I am Newcastle and England boss and would love to be able to call him up to the England team or at least push that as an option seen as the Frogs don't seem bothered. Is there any way to do that or something similar? Thanks in advance folks!
SI Staff EdL Posted November 13, 2011 SI Staff Share Posted November 13, 2011 No, I'm afraid even if you could get to him to be have British nationality (he won't because he knows he can't play for England) he would never be eligible to play for England under the home nations rule (which we now have in, maybe was last version as well I can't remember) which means only players who were born in that country or have a parent from that country or are educated for 5 years in that country are eligible to play. SI Staff EdL Posted November 13, 2011 SI Staff Share Posted November 13, 2011 Same reason the likes of Arteta, Alumina etc. have never be eligible to play for England despite the media liking to bring it up, or Nacho Novo for Scotland.
pliversedge22
Yeah I remember aluminium being linked with it. Fair enough if those clowns at the FA developed the rule it must be a gem! Thanks for the reply though! Better get him sold like the rest of the foreigners to bring in some extortionate English talent!
